Hi !

System Information
Operating system: Linux-5.7.0-1-amd64-x86_64-with-debian-bullseye-sid 64 Bits
Graphics card: Mesa Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630 (CFL GT2) Intel 4.6 (Core Profile) Mesa 20.1.2

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.90.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2020-07-19 21:23, hash: 78e40ad21f
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
When activating the Screen Space Reflections in the Render Properties and using the Rendered Viewport Shading, artifacts are produced when moving quickly the view or the objects.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Run Blender with defaults
  • In the Properties Editor, Render tab, choose Eevee as engine and activate the Screen Space Reflections
  • In the 3D View, add a few objects and choose the Viewport Shading mode to Rendered
  • Move quickly the objects, the lights or the view and notice the artifacts: looks like a paragraph of light grey text but with dots and small lines

eevee_display_bug.jpg

Appears in a X11 session and Wayland equally.
Is present in Blender 2.83.2 LTS and 2.81a too.

Thanks !

system-info.txt

Steps to reproduce the error from attached .blend file

  • Open the file
  • In the 3D View editor, change the Viewport Shading mode to Rendered
  • Select Suzanne or the point light, invoque the move/grab tool and move it quickly in the 3D space while holding the button to notice the artifacts. Panning or rotating the view also shows the artifacts

I cannot reproduce this problem,
Can you provide a .blend file and more detailed steps to reproduce it?

Thanks for the info, but I still can't reproduce :\

This is probably due to an uninitialized memory that contains content from something else.

It seems like a graphic driver issue. Please double-check if the drivers are up to date.

To upgrade to the latest driver, see here for more information: https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/troubleshooting/gpu/index.html

Hi @mano-wii !
Thanks for asking Clément... apparently it has nothing to do with mystic messages hidden into Blender 😄

Just so you know, my Linux distro is up to date, the drivers too.
I tested on another machine with Windows 10 and a Nvidia card in Blender 2.91 and the artifacts are also present.
I suspect these artifacts are a sort of delayed tracing when the Screen Space Reflections are sampled, as the viewport is not instantaneous and needs some time to render while the objects/light/view are moving.

These artifacts are not so annoying but noticable though.
So, if someone else can reproduce it, this report could be considered as a low/known issue tbh.

If you need more testing or something else from my side, just let me know.
Thanks, have a great day !

Does this go away with Viewport samples set to 1 and/or Viewport denoising turned OFF?

Hi @lichtwerk !

Thanks for having a look at this issue.
With today's 2.91 build ithe artifacts are still present, sadly 😃

Updated system and Blender version:
Linux-5.7.0-2 and Mesa 20.1.4
Version: 2.91.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2020-08-03 05:14, hash: 144f780c71

With your suggestions (viewport sampling to 1 and denoising OFF) the artifacts are less visible though 😄

Can you spot it with this new file ? Change the viewport shading to rendered and press play to animate

Yes, I can see them.
Not sure if these can be avoided though, @fclem will have to share his wisdom here.

Will confirm for now...

Hi there !

As of version: 2.92.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2020-10-21 22:51, hash: ef5d6e9c45

I can not reproduce the artifacts anymore on these machines:

Operating system: Darwin-19.6.0-x86_64-i386-64bit 64 Bits
Graphics card: AMD Radeon Pro 5500 XT OpenGL Engine ATI Technologies Inc. 4.1 ATI-3.10.18

Operating system: Linux-5.4.0-7642-generic-x86_64-with-debian-bullseye-sid 64 Bits
Graphics card: Mesa Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630 (CFL GT2) Intel 4.6 (Core Profile) Mesa 20.0.8

Could it be thanks to @fclem 's yesterday and last week EEVEE SSR commits ?

Can somebody else also confirm that it is solved on its side, so we can safely close this report ?
Thanks !

I can confirm, this is definitely an improvement.
I can still see an occasional bright spot, but no more of these longish artifacts.
I assume this is the furthest we can reach now, so will close.
If issues creep up again, feel free to open a fresh report, thx!
