Annotations do not scale in the Shader Editor with the Resolution Scale or Windows Display Scaling #79473

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.18362-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with Max-Q Design/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 432.13

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.83.3, branch: master, commit date: 2020-07-22 06:01, hash: 353e5bd749
Worked: Couldn't find one. Tried 2.90 beta too.

Short description of error
Annotations made in the Shader Editor do not scale with the interface, either with the Preferences resolution scaling or with Windows Display scaling. This is problematic when reviewing annotations made on a computer using a different screen scale as notes do not line up.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Go to Shader Editor - Add default material/nodes for scale reference.
T - for left toolbar. Select Annotation tool.
Add annotation to the screen, e.g. draw around a node.
On the Menu > Edit > Preferences > Interface
Change the resolution scale.
Nodes will scale. The annotation marks will not.

Same behaviour is observed by changing the Windows Scaling % in the Windows Display 'Scale & Layout' menu.

I can see why this would be useful to resolve, but this isn't a bug really. Resolution scale is not the same as zoom, it makes nodes truly bigger. Not sure if it would be easy to apply this to annotations as well.

@JulianEisel any idea?

I will confirm for now, I think this deserves at least known issue status.

I'd consider this a known issue and papercut. The annotations strokes are just grease pencil objects which is why they don't scale with the UI. It seems simple enough to just scale with the ui scale in the node editor.

And a quick hack in the code shows it's definitely possible without much effort

Just note that the difference between widget scale and ui scale differs, so the annotations wouldn't always be perfectly aligned with inputs.
