Short description of error
If you select any kind of object (Cube, Light, etc.) and execute the Bind Camera to Markers command in the Timeline, Blender treats that object as a "Camera". I'm not sure if this is to be considered a feature.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
In the default startup Scene, select the Cube/Light and hit Ctrl+B

Any object can be a camera in Blender. It's a bit weird, cause you can't change its settings.

I think of this as a feature; would be dismayed to see it go. It's my wont to snap an Empty to a vertex, edge or face, {key CNTL B} in the time line - Empty selected - followed by {key NUMPAD 0} and take the view to approximate the reflection hemisphere at that point on the surface where the empty sits.

Non-Camera objects can also be cameras, a proof of which is the operator in
View -> Cameras -> Set Active Object as Camera
.The manual also does not say that the active object has to be a camera:
