Short description of error
Generative modifiers create points that aren't editable.
You cannot do anything with those points in editmode, weightpaint mode or vertexpaint mode.
For example, they cannot be selected.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. open attached blend file
  2. press A to select all points, only every other point gets selected.

Issue already came up in T78884: Grease Pencil: Crash weight painting on stroke with generative modifier [subdivide] - also generative modifiers create actual editable points?

Philipp Oeser (lichtwerk) changed the task status from Needs Triage to Confirmed.Aug 10 2020, 10:45 AM
Philipp Oeser (lichtwerk) changed the subtype of this task from "Report" to "Bug".

This is because the is a Subdivide modifier present.
This modifier will create those points which appear editable (but they are not)

The issue also came up in T78884: Grease Pencil: Crash weight painting on stroke with generative modifier [subdivide] - also generative modifiers create actual editable points?, and I have talked to @Antonio Vazquez (antoniov) about this.
Iirc, these points used to being drawn dimmed (so they were distinguishable from the others) -- which got lost in some refactor.

I, too, still think this is confusing, and would kindly ask @Antonio Vazquez (antoniov) (or @Clément Foucault (fclem)) to bring back the dimming (unless there is something that speaks against this?)

Philipp Oeser (lichtwerk) renamed this task from GPencil. Alternate points aren't editable to GPencil: generative modifiers create points that aren't editable.Aug 10 2020, 10:48 AM
Philipp Oeser (lichtwerk) updated the task description. (Show Details)
Antonio Vazquez (antoniov) changed the subtype of this task from "Bug" to "Known Issue".

Not sure we can consider this a "bug". I will set as Know Issue. Anyway, I'm going to try to implement again the dimmed points.
