Cycles animation render crash in scenes that use VDB cache and Vector pass (fixed in 2.9, request to backport to LTS) #79767

Worked: 2.90.0 Beta (fixed by 6ac235a6f7)

Short description of error
VDB animation render crashes always when having Vector AOV (Passes->Data) on for Cycles render. Single VDB file (non-sequence) works with animation render with Vector pass on, but when having VDB sequence, then crash happens. Usually before very start of 1st frame render, but if the VDB sequence has offset, then sometimes 1st frame renders and crash happens just start of 2nd frame render. This happens only for animation renders, single frame renders doesn't crash.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Load sample VDB file in VDB object.
  2. Change Output path to folder that works with the test system.
  3. Render Animation (CTRL-F12) CRASH
  4. To test and confirm the cause of problem disable Vector pass and re-render

I am not totally sure how we handle these kinds of reports (since this is fixed in 2.9 by 6ac235a6f7 it is basically a request for backporting a fix to 2.8 LTS, right?)
But I have seen accepted reports like this before, so I will raise awareness to @Jeroen-Bakker, @brecht in this case as well.

I assume this should just get on the list here #77348 (Blender LTS: Maintenance Task 2.83) -- if it can be backported at all, then report closed?

This has been added to the backport list in #77348 (Blender LTS: Maintenance Task 2.83), so I guess @Jeroen-Bakker will close this report when the commit will actually land in the LTS branch
