My PC crashes when I try to render in cycles #80059

System Information:
Operating system: windows 10
Graphics card: AMD RX 560 4GB

Blender Version:
Broken: every version of blender.
Worked: none

Short description of error:
Basically when I render with cycles on a GPU after a random period of time rendering my screen either flashes white and then my PC crashes, or dots show up all over my screen as if my GPU was failing. Both resulting in a complete crash of the system.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error:
It's random, but happens 85% of the renders I try to make.

If your operating system crashes, then the cause is likely one of the following:

  • Bug in the graphics driver
  • Overheating
  • PSU doesn't provide enough power
  • Issue with the operating system
  • Hardware failure

Blender itself cannot crash the entire system without a fault somewhere else. I would suggest that you update your graphics driver first and check if that solves the issue.

Please also open Blender, save your system information through Help > Save System Info and upload the file by clicking on the upload button, as shown in the screenshot below, or via drag-and-drop.

  1. I tried reverting the GPU drivers and still nothing helps.

  2. Overheating is not an option because my GPU/CPU hardly goes above 65C.

  3. I tried unlocking the power output to 600W and no change.

  4. Might be.

  5. Not the case as I put the PC through test at my local IT-store and all is fine.

I think I'll just wait for updates on my drivers/windows for a fix. Thanks for your time.

Sounds similar to #80519 ( Radeon RX5xx: Computer freezes/crashes when user performs actions in Viewport during rendering in Blender 2.90)
