A bug report for Blender is not a trivial undertaking; take time to be as detailed as possible and take nothing for granted. An understandable and common error for first time reporters is to rely on assumed knowledge, leaving out important clues. See [BF Blender Bug Report]] and Pablo Vazquez's [https:*www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTD0OJq_rF4|How to Report a Bug. Pablo observes that a good bug report is the result of a serious investigation. Until solved and fixed, a bug is a mystery, for which clues are needed to limit possibilities and point to lines of investigation.
Your report is missing key information:

  • What version of Windows are you using?
  • What site did you go to for Blender? Blender's download site, Steam or an online store?
  • What version of Blender are you downloading?
  • Have you tried (temporarily) disabling anti-virus software or other running applications? What other things you may have tried?

Experimental versions of Blender change daily. Have you tried a later version?

Please read the background information on bug reporting and get back with extra details when you can. We'll keep this report open for two weeks or so. Thank you in advance for getting back to us.

Could be a broken download. I would suggest you try to download the .msi again or try to use the portable .zip version (only requires extracting, but no installation).

The error message in the linked image reads:

Windows cannot open the folder.

The Compressed (zipped) Folder 'E:\Documents\blender\blender-2.90.0-windows64.zip' is invalid

For future comments and bug reports, please either type the error message out as text or post the image directly on the bug tracker. Don't use image hosting/sharing websites. Files/image can either be upload via drag and drop or by clicking on the upload button as shown in the screenshot below.

I've tried to open the current .msi/.zip and both open correctly. The files provided by the website are valid. The issue must be on your system and is unrelated to Blender.

I have to close this ticket, because this is not an issue with Blender's installer or archive. You may want to check that your hard drive functions properly, for instance with chkdsk, and ensure that it has enough space.

@elopyam Since I can open the files properly on Windows 10, the issue appears to be on your system. One potential cause of corrupted files could be a failing hard drive, which is why I suggested to run chkdsk. It's a tool by Microsoft to find errors in your file system and the hard drive. Alternatively, you could do the following steps through the UI to check your hard drive:

  • Open the Windows Explorer ({key Win} + {key E})
  • Right-click on the E: hard-drive icon
  • Select Properties
  • Switch to the Tools tab

In the Error Checking section click the Check button.

If this doesn't report any errors, the issue is likely somewhere else on your system.
