UDIM tiled images with generated contents dont render in Cycles #83457

System Information
Operating system: Windows 10 pro 64 bit, AMD Ryzen 5 3400 G with radeon vega graphics, 16 gb ram
Graphics card: nvidia GTX 1650 super

Blender Version
Broken: 2.91.0, 0f45cab862, master, 2020-11-25

working on the new udim mode I was proving my uvs with a uv grid and when i went to try to get a render i note that when you change to cycles in the render engine the texture is lost and dont appears in the render but in eevee it works fine. the error only happen when you try to use cycles.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
*Open the file
*Go to render preview mode
*Change to cycles in the render engine section

Can confirm that UDIM tiled images with generated contents dont render in Cycles.

Not sure how to classify though, because:

  • texturepainting in a rendered viewport in Cycles is very limited anyways [not updated during painting]
  • those UDIMs cannot be packed
  • as soon as you save them externally, it all starts working...

To me this sounds like it could be a Known Limitation, but will confirm for now.
