System Information
Operating system: Darwin-20.1.0-x86_64-i386-64bit 64 Bits
Graphics card: AMD Radeon Pro 560X OpenGL Engine ATI Technologies Inc. 4.1 ATI-4.0.47

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.91.0, branch: master, commit date: 2020-11-25 08:34, hash: 0f45cab862

Short description of error
Blender crashes in macOS Big Sur after leaving open for some time. It has happened consistently (every time), three times in total.

Apple crash dump: https://pastebin.com/4iJ8MDWp

Sadly, no Blender crash log was found in /tmp.

Furthermore, recovering the session fails with error No such file or directory. I'm happy to open another bug report for this if it's not related.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Create a new General file
  2. Walk away
  3. Come back a few hours later
  4. Click anywhere in the viewport
  5. See the crash

I realize this isn't a lot to go on. Let me know what else I can do. I've lost a lot of progress due to this issue so I'm invested in its resolution. :)

Can you check if this happens when machine enters sleep mode and if it doesn't happen when you disable sleep mode?

This could be duplicate of #70856

MacBook Pro 16", late 2020
AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 4 GB
macOS 11.1 "Big Sur"
Blender 2.91.2

Very frequent but difficult-to-predict crash when Blender has been running in the background for "a while".
Usually, I switch back to Blender from another application, click anywhere or do anything at all, and--zap, it's gone.
I am a new user here, please let me know what specific information may help.

Thanks,
Giuseppe

Apologies for the delay. I think this issue only happened when using the CPU renderer. When I enabled the Radeon renderer the app stopped crashing.
