System Information
Operating system: Windows 10
Graphics card: Quattro

Blender Version
Broken: 2.91.0
Worked:

Short description of error
When the lifetime setting of a particle system gets changed during an animation of the emitter and the animation gets baked, the number of frames are not aligned to the changed lifetime.

Initial lifetime of 100 will be changed during the animation to 500. Number of frames after bake is the frame end setting of the particle system plus the initial life time setting - in this case 100.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Open attached file or (Based on the default startup):

    • Set number of frames to 1.000
    • Create a sphere - size .1
    • Enter keyframe on frame 0 for location x,y,z
    • Move sphere on x-axis to +10
    • Enter keyframe on frame 250 for location x,y,z
    • Add particle system to the sphere, 1.000 pieces, start frame 1, end frame 250, lifetime 100
    • Add keyframe for lifetime on frame 1 and frame 49 with lifetime value 100
    • Add keyframe for lifetime on frame 50 with a lifetime value of 500
  • Bake all Dynamics
You will see 351 frames in memory and not 751 as expected
Although the error is the same, rendering of animation does still work in Blender 2.83.5 but not in Blender 2.91.0 anymore
WORKAROUND: Set keyframe for lifetime on frame 0 with lifetime value 500

I followed all the steps, but I was unable to reproduce the problem :\I cannot reproduce this with either the latest stable or current development versions of Blender:

Can you try the latest daily build? https://builder.blender.org/download/

Could you provide a simple blend file saved right before the bug occurs? So only a few steps are needed to trigger the bug.

I tested it withthe latest Alpha build version 2.92.0 Alpha and withthe latest release build 2.91.0 . Same result - if you Bake all Dynamics you do get 351 frames in memory. But it should be 751 because of the lifetime change at frame 50.

Thanks for the report. Marking this as known issue since it depends on the old particle settings which is end of life .
