This may happen if file on disk has changed sound strips do recalculate length on various updates. It would help to provide any info how this could be reproduced from scratch if file was never touched and check if this happens with older versions.

Can you share .blend and sound file?

I think I should treat this as bug regardless if file has been changed or not. Sound can't be longer than actual sound length, but no strip should automatically increase it's length - it can mess up timeline.

Test.zip
Simplified the file.
Steps:

  • Open Final.blend
  • Open FPS dropdown and click on 24

Thanks for example file. As far as I can see, code is working as intended - if sound length doesn't match, it is updated. Sound length is about 27s, while in timeline it is only 24s.

I would need to know how this difference happened in first place. When I add sound again, it has correct length. This could be caused by some addon or perhaps vile was created in old version where length wasn't updated.

Not sure if that was it but, I'm sure I did add them and then updated the sound files... will try to reproduce later but not sure i will be able to.

I got it :), basically it happens when a file with same name has changed its length... so is it normal behaviour? shouldn't it update the strip UI when you open the project? or even tell that the file has changed?

Test1.zip

Steps:

  • Go inside Music/Exports
  • Delete "Final.wav"
  • Rename "Rename this.wav" file to "Final.wav"
  • Open the blend file and change the fps to 24

Thanks for update. This is expected behavior.
When you load file, ideally nothing should happen. This is because this way we can open files as fast as possible.

Blender has no control of what happens to files on HDD when it is not running. Ideally you should change media using Blender UI controls. However sound length is not updated using these controls either, so this should be fixed at least.
