Graphics card: GeForce GTX 1070/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 457.51

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.91.0, branch: master, commit date: 2020-11-25 08:34, hash: rB0f45cab862b8
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
GPU crash

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Same bug as in all previous versions of Blender, causes crashing upon rendering but it's getting worse - I used to be able to switch to CPU rendering. I think I even know the types of 3d models that are causing it, but even after deleting those models, it now crashes 100% of the time on any cycles render, cpu, gpu etc.

Here are the debug logs:

Can you provide us with a minimal project file that uses one of the .dds textures that seem to cause problems in OpenImageIO?

Update: I realised I had to delete the materials too, as that's where the problem lies. Now I can render again. Will see if I can drill down any more on the material. It's probably something to do with the image texture used.
edit: sorry, just saw your response. I'll see what I can do.

Ok here we go. The dds file format seems to not be friendly in general. I can't open this kind of file in Photoshop. So likely Blender isn't happy either.

Just render it in Cycles and it should crash.

@Andrew Walsh (andywalshart) Thank you very much for the files. I will look into this on Monday.

I'm unable to reproduce this in 2.91, 2.92 on Windows and Linux both in release and debug builds. ASAN on Linux also doesn't detect anything.

The project is missing other texture files, perhaps those are causing the issue. Could you please either pack all files used in the example project into the *.blend or create an archive that contains everything that is needed?

Any theories? I see other issues with dds textures here: https://developer.blender.org/T64758

Ah that's interesting. When I strip out those other textures it doesn't crash. I was surprised that there was about half a dozen other textures in there because all I did was copy and paste one object from one file into this. Doesn't quite resolve it but if I can ever isolate it down to just one texture I'll make a new report.

@Andrew Walsh (andywalshart) the project you've uploaded contained multiple objects, each with their material (Cube.027_low.001, Plane.001, GEN_ALL_Barricade_02_LOD0.001-.005). No need to wait and create a new ticket. Please just upload the project that contains everything necessary to reproduce the crash. If that means we need the textures for the other materials, then please create an archive with them and the project file.

@Andrew Walsh (andywalshart) Could you please provide the complete project with the required texture files?

sorry I deleted it. I'll try again next time it happens.
