MacOS: Eevee render crashes with GPU hang occurred

Laptop: 2019 Macbook Pro 16"
Operating system: Mac OS Big Sur 11.1
Graphics card: AMD Radeon Pro 5300M / Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB
Processor: 2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7
Memory: 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4

Blender Version
Broken:
2.91.0 and 2.91.1

Short description of error
Render engine: eevee
Blender crashes in rendered view or after hitting F12 (Render Image)

GPU hang occurred, msgtracer returned -1

last step taken in this file before crashing:
Math node > function power > right side render tab > render: 64 sample: 256 distribution: 1000

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible).

  • "Render image" with render engine Eevee.

I'm completely new to blender, so I hope I wrote this down correctly!

I can't reproduce a crash on Linux with 2.91.0. After Blender crashes macOS should show you a crash report. Could you please copy the content into a file and attach it to your bug report?

When I opened the attached file for the first time, and switch the viewport to Rendered mode, it freezes the entire system. After a couple of minutes, the Blender crashed.
When I tried the second time, I had to restart the system after waiting for about ten minutes. I didn't notice any CPU usage or something, it's just that the whole system isn't responding.

Yes this is exactly what happens to me too. My entire laptop freezes and then Blender crashes. I had to restart my laptop multiple times too..
