Scale and Location are Bugged - ARCHITECTURAL ISSUE #84851

Closed
opened 2021-01-19 07:51:15 +01:00 by Chinto · 9 comments

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.18362-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630 Intel 4.5.0 - Build 27.20.100.8681

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.93.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2021-01-18 23:28, hash: 09c7c63890
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Z Location Do not Match the Scale
[Hi so I recently started using software for architectural purposes and realized that it does not work. Z location does not match with Scale of the Scene. So I cant use it exactly for Architecture purpose.]

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
1.Create a Default Cube
2. Change Location to Z=1
3. Object > Origin > Set Origin to 3d Cursor
4. Set Z Scale = 3

  1. Create a Plane
  2. Set Z Position = 3
  3. Z = 3/2 = 1.5 (half the elevation it should have been)

CONFIRMATION 1: Make another Default Cube to see, Scale is Correct but Z location is not
CONFIRMATION 2: Make a plane and Extrude it to 3m height , it do not match....]

003 - Video Explaining.mov
Here is the File in 2.93 version, still not solved, happens on all 2.8 releases. I don't know if 2.7 versions had this problem or not

Default cube is 2x2x2. Setting its Z scale to 3 makes its Z dimension 6.

Thanks ,
That makes sense now. Thanks alot.
Let me test that..

As @Stan_Pancakes mentioned, the default cube is 2x2x2 (in the 3d view, press N to see the properties panel, at the bottom, there are the dimensions of the selected object). So the scaled cube is 6 units tall (as you can so see by the grid). This is not a bug. Closing.

This is not a bug in Blender. The default cube is 2 m high, you offset it by 1 m so the top is 2 m away from center of the global coordinates. You then scale it by factor 3 along the Z-axis, given that the origin of the object is at 1 m above the ground, that result in the top of the cube at 4 m and the the bottom at -2 m. You then place the plane at 3 m above ground.

If you need help learning or using Blender, please post a question on one of our [community websites ]], for instance https:*blender.stackexchange.com/ , https:*blenderartists.org/ or the [ https:*blender.chat/channel/support | #support channel on Blender chat .
