Robert Guetzkow (rjg) changed the task status from Needs Triage to Needs Information from User.Jan 30 2021, 2:10 PM

It does change the orientation for me in the same way in both 2.91.0 and 2.91.2. The object's Z-axis is aligned with the viewing direction.

  1. Add > Mesh > Monkey and keep Align set to Global
  2. Use Object > Transform > Align to Transform Orientation and set Orientation to View

What result are you seeing in Blender 2.91.2?

I also can't reproduce the issue in rB5d215d522541, same behavior as before. Did you mean that it doesn't produce the same result as the Align option when creating the object?

I can reproduce it for blender version : 2.92.0 alpha .

Germano Cavalcante (mano-wii) changed the subtype of this task from "Report" to "Bug".

I can confirm that Align to Transform Orientation does not behave as before with the View orientation.
Regression introduced in rBf9e994d0f463: Fix T83092: Direction of rotation with View orientation changed in 2.91.
