Blender Version
Broken: 2.91.2
Worked: Unknown
Short description of error
Hitting the render button of a simple scene with a fluid sim causes Blender to crash.
After hitting the render button, the output window appears. After 15-20 seconds Blender closes without further messages. The top bar of the output window, which usually shows the preparation steps for the rendering stays empty.
Often, Blender already crashes during the calculation of the fluid sim.
The error is related to one specific computer. CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900K CPU @ 3.60GHz
Testing the same scene on another computer works just fine. CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor @ 3.60 GHz
Attached is the crash log, system info and the scene log file.
The main error is:
AB Water Splash 09.3.crash.txt
blender_debug_output.txt
blender_system_info.txt
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
I took all steps I could think of to find the problem:
What is special in my case is the way I am accessing the computer.
The computer is located in the company office and I use the remote software AnyDesk to access it.
Maybe the developers can find the same bug when they use the same CPU. (Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900K CPU @ 3.60GHz)
File to teste:
AB Water Splash 09.3.blend

The problem occurs in the CPU in the function
particles_fluid_step
.Unfortunately, without the developers being able to replicate the problem, there is not much we can do.
Many bugs are fixed between the official releases. Please try the latest development snapshot of blender: https://builder.blender.org/download
In this case, it might be helpful to share the file.

Can you retest this on latest blender build since 2.92 is no longer receiving fixes? https://builder.blender.org/
Hi there,
Just tried the scene with version 3.0.1.
Blender now quits during baking.

Hi, can you clarify what exactly I need to do in order to get the crash? Simple rendering the scene? or just hit the bake?
Note that the OpenCL rendering support was removed in Blender 3.0.
Hit "Free all" for the domain, then bake again and render an image.

Hi, is there any way you can reduce the length of bake time with this sim and still reproduce the issue? Eg do you see the issue if the sim is only a few frames?
I just started baking it to see if I can reproduce your issue but I can see it will take a really long time so I've cancelled it.
Pete.
Hi Pete,
Thanks for looking into this issue.
The PC which is causing trouble is currently being reinstalled by the IT-department. If this solves the issue I will let you know and we can close this ticket. If not, I will prepare a shorter sim.
Michael
With a fresh installation of Windows 10 the issue is solved.
Sorry for bothering and thanks for all the help!
Michael
