Blender 2.92.0 crash on opening 73MB file (still opens some others)

System Information
Operating system: MacOS 0.15.7
Graphics card: Radeon Pro 555X 4GB/Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536MB

Blender Version
Broken: 2.92.0, 02948a2cab44, master (example: 2.80, edbf15d3c044, master, 2018-11-28, as found on the splash screen)
Worked: thats the newest version and file was created on it.

When I try to open this project blender just crashes.

Any instruction on how to debug better would be appreciated (I can try to run from source provided instructions). I do have a file that was saved one hour earlier than this one (from the same project) that also crashes.

It looks like the file has corrupted mesh data. We have had other people with the same issue in the past.
Here is what you can do:

  1. Open up Blender with the default start-up file.
  2. Go to File>Append and then browse to the broken file. Go into the file and then to Scene and append the Scene.
  3. Open a Text Editor and paste the script below into it. Run the script.
  4. Now you should be able to select the scene Scene.001 in the top right without a crash.

This should help you fix the corrupted files. Let me know if this works.

I followed the instructions. It loads the additional scene that if I try to use crashes blender.

I then went to scripts, clicked new and pasted the contents that you recommended and it crashed, tried multiple times.

Am I doing what you asked correctly?

I can recover the file with no problem (using blender 2.93).

I just tried with 2.9.3 and crashed in the same way. Did exactly what you did on the video and it crashed when I click to run the script.

I did manage to append individual collections separately which solves my problem. I'm happy to continue trying to debug this to find a root cause if it helps but otherwise feel free to close this.

@Jose Muanis (muanis) Would be good then to get a debug log on this crash. Can you copy the report and add it as a comment? Thanks.

No activity for more than a week. As per the tracker policy we assume the issue is gone and can be closed.
