The two options for "Resolution" are the same as in the "Points to Volume" node.

The node should be added to the "Volume" category.

This task is for porting the Mesh to Volume modifier to a node.
The node will take a mesh or mesh instances and output a volume, similar to the modifier.
The implementation can use 16abe9343a and 5845c06a63 as inspiration.

I have made some progress on adding a MeshToVolume node using the modifier and VolumeToMesh node as a guide. I need to review the feedback about D10506 in more detail as I have likely encountered similar issues. Hopefully I can provide my changes for feedback soon. MeshToVolume.PNG

I used the text from Points To Volume for the resolution options.

Some other areas I encountered that may benefit from further discussion:

  • Grid is an output attribute, should that be at the bottom or distinguished somehow?
  • Attribute search doesn't list the names of volume grids yet.
  • I wasn't able to change the precision when dragging the sliders to match the modifier e.g. 0.01 instead of 0.1

For the precision issue, maybe D9074 will be helpful eventually.

Hi
I am just testing the new volume nodes, seems like the the textures work with volume cube density input but not with volume objects converted from custom objects.
Pardon if am asking questions too soon, just curious.

The density is defined by the mesh input, you can't specify it with a field. The volume cube node can do that, but keep in mind there are other limitations to that approach.

I see,
Would it be possible to modify the volume of object, and achieve similar level of abstraction as you can do with volume cube, with the new mesh to volume node?
Are there any other nodes planned which will enable this functionality?
Thanks

Because of the way OpenVDB volumes are stored sparsely, changing an existing volume isn't quite as simple as generating a new one from a dense evaluation like the volume cube node does.
However, we will have more volume nodes eventually, so things like modifying an existing grid should be possible. I worked on some designs the other day here: #91668 (in the last comment)

Nice to see the activity on this and it getting finalized.
