Short description of error
If you face select on edit mode, it will carry your selection to weight paint face select or texture paint face select or etc.
But if you have triangulate modifier on it will not carry it over.
I did not know this and there was not error message about this anywhere on blender.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Load this file: faceselect001.blend
you see some faces selected with triangulate modifier on.
go to weight paint or texture paint and you see none.
I know this might not be a bug but how software works BUT for a common artist, at least adding a message that it will not carry over selection would have been nice, or disabling triangulate on view automatically when you go to those modes.

Note to self: D13634 might be a hint on where to look (could be that this is just select flags - instead of hide as in said Diff).

This problem still exists in blender version 4.1.1. The triangulate modifier breaks the display of the paint mask in the vertex paint and weight paint modes. That is, the selection and mask work, but in the viewport the faces and vertexes do not look selected when the modifier is active.
