Motivation

Would like to show addon or sub-project info on a pop window, similar to Splash screen or About. Cannot find a way to do it, and maybe useful to addon developers, to show related info (version, build, etc) and could be set as an 'standard' or recommended way to show it (?)

Solution

Create a python function on bpy.utils to create an splash window (similar to wm_block_create_about) an use inside a Python Menu Class passed as function param.

bpy.utils.splash_screen(WM_MT_my_about)

Do not know if there would be other user cases for this functionality.

Has this design task been discussed with the UI team prior to creating this ticket and are you planning to implement this yourself?

It has not been discussed, and yes, i'll try to implement it!

Created before patch, and waiting a little to see if there is any feedback , or advises.

Add-ons already show a description, author, version & link to documentation.

I don't see the need for this, if there is additional useful info to show regarding a newly updated addon we could have an optional "Release Notes" link.
