Short description of error
Blender crashes if a scene has auto executing script (Code text registered to run during start up) that has lines something like this. This seems to be add-on agnostic meaning that it is really not related to node_wrangler as in this example. I tested with couple other addons with the same issue.
I am suspecting that this is a combination of the auto execution and simulation setup.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Make sure your Blender allows auto execution of scripts (see the image below). Save your preferences and restart Blender
Open the attached scene
Open Preferences/add-on
Crash

blender.crash.txt
blender_debug_output.txt
userpref.zip
I am getting this backtrace -- captured when exiting blender, but had this too when opening Preferences once -- (yes, problem seems to be with mantaflow...?)
Seems like MANTA is trying to execute empty commands here.

Not able to reproduce the crash on 3.0.0 (
ae379714e4
).Please add crash logs:
blender_debug_log
(located in same directory where blender.exe is)blender_debug_output
from these two files, you will find the path of crash.txt.C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Local\Temp\
and attach it here(For more information, refer: https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/2.93/troubleshooting/crash.html#windows)
crash appeared sometimes with 2.93 but was very random. Rather it sometimes even crashes after enabling the add-on.
Here are the crash log and the debug log.
Bear in mind that removing the HumGen add-on did not change the crash situation. It was littering the log with its own connection atempts.
Do you see if the
register
option is enabled wehen you open the file?T89860_Crash_Debug_Log.zip
@kursadk , thank you for the files.
Yes, option is enabled from start.
Can you please clarify if I need to enable the "node_wrangler" add-on before opening the attached file? (can't reproduce in that way also)
can you please add userprefs.blend file located in the directory
C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\3.0\config\
?You can try with any add-on that is enabled by default. The point is that the addon has to be enabled prior. Basically enable node-wrangler, save your prefs and restart Blender and try my steps again.
userpref.zip
Thank you for the file. Still not able to recreate the crash.
May be other developers can confirm if they are able to reproduce crash

Can confirm in this particular file.
However, this file here does not have the problem (it has the same script to execute):

Moving those reports as known issues so at least other users can find their issues already reported.

@lichtwerk I am pretty sure this is the same underlying issue as https://developer.blender.org/T98427, and should be fixed by that patch. I was able to recreate the crash on close, but not when opening the preferences menu, and can confirm that it is resolved by the fix for that task that is currently waiting for review.
@lichtwerk I believe this issue is now resolved in master by https://developer.blender.org/D15269 and can be closed
