System Information
Operating system: Windows-8.1 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB/PCIe/SSE2 4.5.0 NVIDIA 466.47

Blender Version
Broken: 2.93.0, branch: master, commit date: 2021-06-02 11:21, hash: 84da05a8b8
Worked: --

Short description of error

The asset browser header really likes to hang out at the top of its area. It'll flip to top by itself every time you reload a file containing it.

Confirmed to be also broken on 3.0.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2021-07-09 23:23, hash: 62d9dabc7d

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Change one of the areas to the Asset Browser.
  2. Flip to Bottom if necessary.
  3. Save the file.
  4. Reload the file.

Can not reproduce on 3.0.0 ae379714e4.

Broken: 2.93.0, branch: master, commit date: 2021-06-02 11:21, hash: 84da05a8b8

As far as I know asset browser is not included in 2.93LTS.

Does this also happen after loading the factory settings (File -> Defaults -> Load Factory Settings) ?

I'm not using the LTS, I'm using the version specified in the report. This is the earliest release I have with Asset Browser support*, but if it's making the report confusing I can edit out the references to 2.93. Or we can just close the report.

I repeated the test in the 3.0 alpha build hashed ae379714e4f1, factory settings. Confirmed the bug is gone.

I had a hunch and swapped the startup file for one created in a 3.0 build from a couple of days ago, successfully recreating the bug in it. Whatever triggers it is not in the build or workspaces themselves, it's saved to the startup file. It's not surprising as it's not the first startup file-led issue I experienced in 3.0.

Factory resetting Blender then manually appending all workspaces from that same file (File > Append...) cleared up the bug. Since I have no idea what exactly in those files triggers the issues and it can be manually worked around when reconfiguring Blender I feel it's okay to close this report and direct people to this solution when facing similar issues.

About 2.93 support
*The 2.93 release I'm using apparently offers no way to enable the asset browser through preferences, yet if you open a file with a workspace containing it the browser area will appear just fine. No clue about what witchcraft is going on there, I guess the required GUI code was already included in the 84da05a8b806 release? I'm sorry for the confusion, I did have the vague impression 2.93 hadn't official Asset Browser support yet, but when it displayed the browser correctly upon opening the test file I concluded I was mistaken without further investigation, assuming that if the code is here then it's part of the release.

Will close then. Thanks for checking. Feel free to reopen if problem reappears :)
