Fbx export shape keys not working when object has a triangulation modifer #91316

Short description of error
when a triangulation modifier is on a object and exported with FBX the shape keys are not exported.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

missingshapekeys.blend

  1. create a shapekey animation in blender

  2. add a triangulation modifier to the object

  3. export with fbx (default settings)

  4. import the object in unity

  5. the objects shapekeys are not imported

  6. go back to blender

  7. delete or apply the triangulation modifier
    8., export the object again with FBX exporter

  8. import in unity will give a Skinned mesh renderer

If you hover over the "Apply Modifiers" checkbox on the FBX export screen, you get this tooltip

Applies modifiers to mesh objects (except Armature ones) - WARNING: prevents exporting shape keys.

This is a know limitation, yes (think GLTF -- or any other exporter -- should have the same behavior) since you cannot apply modfiers on meshes with shapekeys (not even manually).

Afraid we have to close this, thx reporting anyways!
