Library Override not working on Linked materials #92081

System Information

Blender Version: 2.93.1

Short description
Changing the custom property value won't update the shader after the Library Override.

Steps to Reproduce

  • Open default blender file
  • Link collection from the attached .blend file
  • {nav Object > Relations > Make Library Override}
  • Switch to shading workspace
  • Select cube and pin the node tree
  • Select bones and switch to Pose Mode
  • Edit the custom property Texture from {nav Bone Properties > Custom Properties > Texture}

Thanks for the report, but could you describe the steps to reproduce the bug in even more detail?
The report mentions "linking the rig to another file" but when I do that, only the rig is linked. The object with the material does not appear.
It also reminds me of #76093 (bone visibility driven by custom property not working with library override)

Sure no problem:

Go to file-Link
navigate to the cube file and then to collection. select collection to link
Then Object-Relations-Make Library Override-Make library override
now select the cube and you will see his material and the nodes, you can pin it
select armature and go to pose mode
select property bone and try changing the value
when the value is changed the value iun the shader does not updates

However if you just open the rig file and try changing the property bone value it will work and the driver is updating

This issue only appears in blender-v2.93-release branch (3.0.0 seems fine)

Hovering over the Value node says: Can't edit this property from a linked data-block so probably the current behavior is expected.

Nice to see this looks already resolved in 3.0.0.

Some consistency improvements/bugfixes were made in 3.0, that won't be backported to 2.93, yes. But in general override workflow of materials remains considered as experimental at best, it still needs time and attention to fix some key issues there. See milestone 6 of #73318 (Library overrides).
