Simple deform modifier not work on plane or other mesh #93589

System Information
Operating system: Tested on mac os Monterey / And windows 11
Graphics card: RTX 2060 for windows 11 / And intel graphics UHD for Mac OS

Blender Version
Broken: 3.0 BETA (For win 11 and Mac os)
Worked: NULL

Short description of error
when you put a modifier "simple deform" on any mesh he in option "Bend" the mesh isn't deformed expect on cylinder is worked

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
1 - Create a plane
2 - Subdivide it
3 - Put a "Simple deform" modifier and choose option Bend
4 - Choose option X OR Y OR Z
as you can see all option doesn't work expect Z he was like broken.

but fully worked on cylinder !

I have tested with Option X AND Y And both doesn't works.
i tried move origine of the object or with empty object but he show me the wrong results !

Idk for why but finally he works... BUT ONLY WHEN HE HAVE AN OBJECT FOR ORIGIN.... Isn't logical, typically he can take this own origin for bend, and define a custom origin, for that .... But for some reason he doesn't work with THIS origin (Mesh object)... i think is a bug !
finally he works at 50%....

Final Bug, Origin object not work. Stay obligated to define a origin (mesh or empty or other object) in the modifier for he works.

PS : i prove it, it's a bug because is fully worked with cylinder but not with all other.

Thanks for the report, but this is working as intended. The documentation for the Simple Deform modifier's Bend mode shows how it has no effect when using the X or Y axes: https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/modeling/modifiers/deform/simple_deform.html

It also discusses why this is the case: it's ambiguous how to bend a perfectly flat object.

I'll mark this task as closed, since it is not a bug.
