Broken:
Probably broken behavior in 2.83
2.93.7, branch: master, commit date: 2021-12-14 16:35, hash: a5b7f9dc90
3.0
Crashes In 3.1.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2022-01-15 05:40, hash: e69020ad0f

Short description of error
The inverted mask expand (Shift+alt+A) in sculpt mode doesn't work properly on blender 2.93 and 3.0
As a note it Seems not also not work properly work on 2.83 with symmetry

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
blender 2.83: invertex expand doesn't work with symmetry
Blender 2.93, 3.0.0:

  • {nav File > New > Sculpting}
  • use the inverted expand: {key Shift Alt A} (it does not appear inverted)
  • now change falloff type with 1-4 (gets inverted)
    If clicked without changing the falloff type it is applied as it is, without the inversion. If you invert using "F", and then change the falloff type, it still changes the inversion.

There are multiple issues here but the core is definitely a bug. The mask expand with that shortcut should properly mirror to the other side.

There some misinformation though. This operator is not just an inverted mask expand. It is the operator "Expand Mask by Normals".
When switching falloff type with the shortcut it will change the operator type entirely. This is a known issue.
