bounding box representation of particle instanced geometry (hair) where the object being instanced is set to bounding box is not being hidden from the viewport when the 'extras' option is checked.

thanks. Should definitely not be visible, as indicate in the tooltip (I could have sworn this was not an issue in 2.8 (must have been mistaken):

its important because you need to be able to see the text info regarding render samples whilst still being able to see the render result unobscured by wires.

Example, i'm trying to see how many samples it takes to clean up the top of the render, but I can't see it for the wires:

Just to get the intention clear: are you proposing to hide everything that displays as boundingboxes if Extras is turned OFF (or just the instances if particle systems)?

hm, tootip says "Object details, including empty wire, cameras and other visual guides", not sure if I would read "boundingboxes" out of that (assume "empty wire" really refers to Empties/Nulls)

Pretty sure this is not a bug, but there might be some benefit in having a chance to hide boundingboxes without hiding the overall overlay.
Just preparing this request as good as possible for someone else to decide...

I can replicate, but as far as I can see in the code, this is by design. The only way to make them invisible is to disable overlays altogether. But I will wait for a developer to confirm that.
