opened 2022-04-17 09:41:17 +02:00 by Max · 7 comments

System Information
Operating system: macOS-12.3.1-x86_64-i386-64bit 64 Bits
Graphics card: AMD Radeon Pro 560 4 GB (but works on internal Intel HD Graphics 630)

Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.1.2, branch: master, commit date: 2022-03-31 17:40, hash: cc66d1020c

Short description of error
grafik.png
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Open Blender default scene (or any scene), enable Metal for AMD Radeon Pro 560 in preferences and switch render engine to cycles - GPU - no pixel is rendered, you can navigate around an invisible scene and then blender freezes. Enabling Metal for CPU (internal graphics) works, only GPU crashes. Disabling Metal in settings allows for Cycle GPU render to behave normally.

Can you please make another screenshot, WHEN you render the next time.

Just start the render, even if it's not working as you said. If you see the cube like in the former screenshot, just a outline, then make immediately a full screen screenshot.

So we could see if blender is setting up the first render with GPU, what takes a while (1-2 min. max).
When starting the render it should appear on the top left next to the tools in 3dview:

If that is the case then wait some minutes, until blender finishes setting up the GPU rendering. This happens every time something on GPU rendering get's changed in the blender code.

This is right after I hit render with Metal GPU enabled and Cycles GPU render engine:

I was not really patient, but I waited about 6 minutes - after that it actually worked!
Thank you for your support, I will try to close this problem.
