System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19044-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 512.59

Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.1.2, branch: master, commit date: 2022-03-31 17:40, hash: cc66d1020c
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
(Origin set to Center of Mass)
Center: Bounds Center does not work. Same result as Median Center.
Also if the "Bounds" checkbox will be toggled in the Viewport Display(Object Properties Tab) while having the Set Origin dialog opened it will be toggled when switching options in the dialog box.
I checked it with 1 imported FBX and one Suzanne that i deformed.
However Maya and Houdini set the pivot to the correct center.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Set Origin > Origin to Center of Mass (Surface or Volume) in the dialog switch from Center: Median Center to Bounds Center.

The UI could need some love here, agree (this is a bit involved though since the operator can act on many different types, not just meshes, metaballs, fonts, ... -- plus it also accepts mixed selections of those...)

So basically:

  • ORIGIN_TO_CENTER_OF_MASS_SURFACE / ORIGIN_TO_CENTER_OF_MASS_VOLUME are only really effective for meshes (falls back to something else for other types)
  • V3D_AROUND_CENTER_MEDIAN / V3D_AROUND_CENTER_BOUNDS are only really effective for ORIGIN_TO_GEOMETRY / GEOMETRY_TO_ORIGIN
  • plus the aforementioned fallback cases

So in your case, Median Center or Bounds Center dont make a difference you've chosen a Type which does not use these options (this is confusing, yes, but somewhat expected)
Ideally, we could/should hide options that dont make a difference, but like I said, it is a bit hairy because multiple objects of different types can be selected.

Will leave it up to the modules to decide how to proceed here [ it is in essence not really a bug, but highly confusing behavior instead ;) ]
