Short description of error
Wrong normalmaps on scaled objects

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
#98251.blend

  • open blend (two spheres of equal dimensions but different object scale)
  • observe the normalmap on the scaled sphere renders wrong

Got an example .blend file to reproduce?

Sure, here is a very simple example with a material on a sphere. I packed the texture so hopefully it's all there.

There is an FBX in the zip file.
It's already been imported into the scene.
I provided a screenshot of what I see.

Cheers.

Seems something changed in regards to normalmaps on scaled objects, the issue goes away if object scale is applied.
Still looks like a bug, will check

So it is really about normalmaps on scaled objects (and not directly related to FBX -- this just changes the scale upon export/import with certain settings), will update the report description accordingly.

Ah yeah, we haven't needed to do that in previous Blender versions (apply the scale). So if it's not a new feature :)

Actually it's worse than we think, try scaling any object with a Normal map in that version, the effect of the normal map compounds if you scale down and lessens if you scale up. Definitely a bug or it means you can't use scaling other than 1.0 anymore. We know Blender is funny about scaling, but this a whole new level : )

I went back into my "broken" file and froze the scale - and it fixed the issue - so this appears to be the same problem.
