Transform Gizmos still visible when switching modal operation #99127

Short description of error
Recently a change has been done to make the move, rotate and scale gizmos visible while dragging them.
But while dragging the gizmo you can still use modal shortcuts to switch to a different operation like move, rotate, scale, or even edge/vertex slide in edit mode.
If that happens the gizmo freezes in the current cursor position and doesn't change anymore.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Use the move tool

  • Drag the gizmo

  • While dragging press R or S

  • In Edit Mode use the move tool

  • Select an edge and drag the gizmo

  • Press G while dragging

In this case I think it's reasonable to hide the gizmos, as your no longer performing an action that's associated with a gizmo.

I hope gizmo visibility behaviour when gizmo is used will be optional as well.

The point of gizmo autohiding is that there is only you and model at the moment of an operation, so you can check your model appearance without distracting elements like gizmos, as a result you can better feel/estimate the proper amount of changes that is needed to apply to reach the desired result. (Temporairly eliminating visual noise that gizmo brings)

Gizmo persistent visibility originally was one of the well known industry standard issues (unnecessary visual noise that influence composition) which was succesfully fixed in Blender.
