System Information
Operating system: Win 10 64x
Graphics card: RTX 2060
Blender Version
Broken: Blender 3.1.2
Worked: don't know. Waited for ability to save collections.
Short description of error
After assigning a Collection as an Asset, then dragging asset into new file.
It doesn't bring in the Modifiers or Particles used in collection.
It also makes the Modifier, Particle tabs on property window disappear.
And also, the Edit Mode dropdown loses all edit modes except object, so I can no longer edit the array or mesh,
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
So basically. Even though you can assign collection of objects, it only works on objects that DO NOT have modifiers, particles and who knows what else.
Is this a limitation or bug?
If its a limitation because it hasn't been added, please do soon.
Because the asset browser is only good for basic stuff.
Will have to stick to my asset manager addon for now.

Okay, so what I see so far, is that I can add primitives' fine that have all the edit mode options.
So, that means an asset that was assigned from a collection and dragged into a new file can't be edited.
So, how do I convert this back to an editable collection including modifiers etc??
Okay, I found a video that let me know that I can press CTRL+A to make instance real.
However, even though the Modifier button is there, all modifiers for that array object is gone.
So, that isn't good.
Okay, I guess I had the wrong cube selected.
So, now I have the right cube that does show the array modifier
None of the modifiers work anymore. So there useless.
Unless that is a way to get it to work.

Thanks for the report. Unfortunately the scenario described is too time consuming for us to track down, we require the bug reporter to narrow down the problem.
If there are many steps to reproduce the problem, please attach a .blend file saved right before the bug occurs, so only a few steps are needed to trigger the bug.
If you're not sure if it's a bug, please try one of the community websites for help using Blender: https://www.blender.org/community/
I gave you the steps. You are the bug fixers. If I knew what was wrong I would tell you. All I know is that after making instance real, it breaks the array modifier so that I can't use it.
All I ca do is give the blend.
All you have to do is assign it as asset then try it on a new file.
I already laid out the steps above.

Thanks for the report, but what's happening here is a misunderstanding of how it works.
You are importing an instance.
As an instance, it does not enter edit mode.
You need to edit the object inside the instance.
So this is not really a bug.
For help using Blender, please try one of the community websites: https://www.blender.org/community/
I'm closing as this bug tracker is only for bugs and errors.
Sir, You didn't read my posts.
I said I was able to "Make Instance Real"... which allows me to edit.
BUT.... When I convert, IT BREAKS THE MODIFIERS so that I can't use the modifiers anymore.
You mean its supposed to break the modifiers???
I have others that don't.
THIS IS BUG!!!
Please carefully read my posts

Here is a video showing you how the modifier gets broke.

Hi, have you tried with
Instance
option unchecked from the redo panelRelated bug report: #98783 (Appending collections always links it instead.)
What is this and where is it?
How to I get that panel?
Okay, I found it. That works.
But, my question is now.
Why do I have to do this extra step every time.
After all, it is the "Add as Asset" that is making it an instance.
That means this happens every time.
I don't think that should be on by default then.
Right now this is the only way(as far as I know) to use the collection without instancing.
There is also a TODO task regarding what should be the default behavior. see: #96963 (Collection Assets: To Instance or Not to Instance)
I did respond to that thread. Now I understand the issues going on.
So, I am all set with my particular issue.
Thanks

I think it's fair to close this report since we already have one (#96963)
