@Lauri Hastholm (laurijh) I don't have a CPU without SSE4.1, it would be great if you could leave feedback here if my fix worked for you. On unsupported CPUs, you should now see a message in the node itself and it should now act as a passthrough instead of returning a black image.

Ok, thanks @Marcus Papathoma (machieb) that's the explanation. On Linux /proc/cpuinfo shows the CPU feature flags which for me includes sse and sse2 but no higher.
Us with an old CPU but a newer Nvidia GPU can still use the Optix/Cuda denoiser and related Blender add-ons.

I think for AI Denoiser you need a cpu with SSE 4.1 or greater. Your cpu is too old!

Glad I could help! To answer your other question, the node setup you have is definitely not the best way to save render passes (although I've been forced to do the same thing in order to work with legacy pipelines). Look into the Multilayer OpenEXR format. Choosing this option in your main output settings will cause all enabled render passes to automatically save to a single .EXR file without any node work or technically incorrect color transforms.

The appended node groups in your example file are quite simple so those probably aren't the cause of your issue.

This could cause more problems than it solves.
Often people select the wrong type of function through lack of knowledge, then realise it when the results aren't as expected. Not much of a problem at the moment because you can change it easily from the existing node's dropdown. If you have to replace the entire node then it's a lot of steps to delete the node, add another node, and then hook things back up properly, if you get the math wrong a number of times this could become frustrating. Also the menus system would become bloated (although sub menus would help as Eitan suggested above).
I guess a solution that would fit all would be to have a sub menu off of the math listing, and then use whatever's selected to set the operation type in the math node's dropdown. That way it can be easily changed if necessary , and allow users to add with one click.

The compositor is running separate threads for independent nodes. In most constellations, that means that all denoising nodes run at the same time.

Expose outline scale as a uniform so that the outline can be adjusted.
Set the outline to x 0.7 for sockets. This closely matches the existing drawing method now.

As EEVEE doesnt support object motion blur, a vector pass would also be a great addition to EEVEE if possible. Would save having to render each frame twice (once in eevee and once in cycles for the vector pass).

It's not directly related to your proposal, but if we rethink the way we provide group inputs as nodes, we might just as well think about the ability to expose every possible node input type, like for example a dropdown, a color picker, a toggle checkbox, you get it.

We definitely want to give users control over how node group inputs are displayed later on. However, that topic is orthogonal to the one presented in the original post. Maybe, the topic name should have been more precise.

Another idea I'd like to throw out there is splitting and recombining pins that may have sub-components. Although I guess this is not strictly related to node group inputs, but maybe the most relevant to them. Here is how this works in UE4:

Another variable about inputs that is very not easy to change is the way in which they are displayed. Floats and Vectors can be displayed in different ways, and maybe other things too.
