I believe the correct behaviour should be a sort of install external module button (just like the install addon button) that will copy the external module in the correct syspath making the module local and available. Doing this will require also a list of installed modules and a remove module button in the preference.

hi, were you still developing this? I think it's great concept but seems hard to set up? As 2.8 beta has been released, we could look at something like this again at some stage. It may be better to archive this task and start a new task when it's updated to Blender 2.8 series. One note, Easy of use and installation set up should be all behind the scenes or via check boxes in the addons preferences. I think matpi? did a similar one also?

hi @Nobuyuki Hirakata (Gappy1) I guess now we really need to update this for Blender 2.8. As the parent addon is not updated either, it may be needed to update both or merge both as a folder addon? What do you think? We could really use the help. I think also it may be better to close this task and start a new task for the 2.8 series. You could also add in your needed patches as you rebuild for the new series? Thanks. I'll archive this task for now and look forward to hearing from you soon. You may re-open this task if you feel it is still valid, but again Iy's best to start fresh I think.

2.8 is a release with big change in critical areas.
Python rig-is should be deprecated in next rigify major update my opinion.
Still is not clear how/if/when armature system is going to get a redesign. We discussed with the foundation several option of pickers and ui implementations for armatures. All those required ui hacking to work in the viewport (2.79) and we abandoned the project. Until armature plans for 2.8x are more clear i'd put on hold any big effort in changing something is going to be abandoned anyway.
i'll try to have a deeper look on what happens here anyway.

The only bug i can confirm is misplaced tail tweak layers. It seems i forgot to set the spine property correctly. This is an easy fix even for the user, just select the bone in pose mode and in the 'Rigify Type" tab just deselect layer 2 and select layer 5. This will enable the 'spine tweak' layer in the rig ui and place the tweak bones accordingly.

I decided to keep the original spacebar key mapping. This addon will need further updates to reflect new functions and modes and object types. I will create another task for the updates at an appropriate time. Currently the addon is fully functional returning no errors and as such, version bumped to 2.8

The bug tracker isn't a support system. A better place to troubleshoot this will probably still be with the addon author - try contacting him again. For instance, your second picture clearly indicates an old set of files attempting to be installed -- beyond the "upgrade to 2.8x required" message, the error message itself references "scene_update_post" which is no longer in 2.8 and is no longer in the addon developers git repository at that location either. Double-check where you got your zip from.

I've actually found that the bug is a little deeper. If you start at 10,100 etc and drag it to lower than half of it's value you are limited to half of the value you started at value. E.g. Start at 10 drag to less than 5.

Most likely the problem is in the disabled Path Animation. Standard curves are created with Path Animation enabled, and Add Curve: Extra Objects are created without Path Animation enabled. If in object mode you disable Path Animation in a standard curve, it Blender 2.8 crashed.

objects are moved in long distance from world origin. I think it was an idea to move center from bottom left corner to bottom right corner. But this doesn't works, because Inkscape generates height with units and geometry without units:

Not sure whether it's really best idea. Thing is, it might be handy for some simple art or references, but SVG might also be used for some CAD things where you don't want any unrequested modifications to the coordinates. We also don't do this for other formats.

This .blend file You attached is (as far as I know) default init blend file, so I can't check what You have changed. Please attach the changed .py file.
I followed Your directions:

  • I removed enumerate (It was there for testing purposes anyway), but this did not solve the problem.
  • I assume that Your step 2 was passing 'deepcopy(branch['sub_items'])' instead of ''branch['sub_items'] into the recursive function. It did not solve the problem for me (did it for You?). Please remember that (like I wrote in the comments of my py file) calling operator again does not replicate the error: "I have to restart blender to repeat the error". And after that changes error is still there. Also, the problem from Your link is little different from mine, because my problem is with 'current_item' variable (not with ''branch['sub_items']"). I am not passing 'current_item' to the recursive call, and as far as I know my current_tems variables from every scope point to a different object, coz I create it in the scope, not passing it as a parameter.

Do as all other contributors do (and we did) make a redesign proposal, make it public, make people involved. Making a pull request and complaining to have it approved without respecting design and code guidelines from the author is not a clear way to go. You got answers in that, just decided your code is good and can override guidelines. So you are assuming you approve yourself the code and its design and we are only here to say yes. That's not how i intend a collaboration basically because "you are not the only person involved there".

Well, if you were an official maintainer of a module in the C core of blender, I would have already asked Brecht or Cambell to review it instead, and they would likely have done it. This is basically what happened with all my recent animation and NLA patches. Being an official maintainer without actually doing any code review is holding the module hostage.

I don't honestly know if there's such implication in mantaining a module, but i am sure it implies bug fixing, keep the add-on working, design, discuss and manage features implementations and request.

Animation info is not 'lost', it's just 'disconnected' (due to how FBX anim system works (and is cryptic), it's not really possible to keep/convey the concept of Action through it). You simply have to re-assign the right action to the right object after re-importing into blender. Disabling All Actions and NLA options in FBX export settings would also help here, I guess (should generate much less animation data).

I can confirm that with blender -> fbx -> blender , the animation is lost and the object is miss positioned.
