Possibly T66022 related

Confirmed on Windows10 x64 too.
Provide a video maybe?
Go to blender folder, launch cmd there, launch blender from the cmd and you'll get info what happened.
Works for me.
As I understand Windows builder is on @Brecht Van Lommel (brecht) VM, therefore I'll assign him here so he can close this after builder is fixed. ;)

@Eitan (EitanSomething) shift+a, eventually spacebar search menu->apply
@Eitan (EitanSomething) pardon that grabbing but I've spend last couple of weeks in Unreal Engine ;p

Well, it's pink, it's clearly not loading some image.

@Clément Foucault (fclem) unfortunately on
2.80 (sub 60), branch: master, commit date: 2019-04-29 10:32, hash: rBa57fec986d2d
it's still broken.
I will try again tomorrow on a newer build.

Wow, a rage quit in bugtracker.
Apr 25 2019
@Sebastian Parborg (zeddb) well then other question, how do one even do this? You can't pick plane from camera list, you can't use eyedropper to place it there, you can't type it there by hand (it won't be accepted)?
@LazyDodo (LazyDodo) As I can see you're right. That's viewport bug, not cycles.
@Sebastian Parborg (zeddb) yes, lastest build with blend attached
Apr 24 2019
@Philipp Oeser (lichtwerk) as far as I can see there were some commits regarding this issue and it stopped crashing after that. Can't see them though, because of builbot last changes limit, so I think it's resolved.

Just look at the bug report, can't you see black cut off when scale goes up/down? Can't you see there's version given there, too? There's even .blend attached.
And if by floor you mean grid display, then no, it's not helping.
If they would blend to one mess they would cover the whole plane, not a part of it, which shrinks with the scale increasing further. It's clearly bugged. It comes to a certain value and then it cuts off generation - thus leaving everything out of it's bounds black.
It should work like voronoi - be continous. And there are enough ways of making numbers to seem continous to do this.
Apr 22 2019
As you can see it's not based on UVs. It's object location.
Also, that would be a workaround, whereas we clearly have a bug here. Voronoi texture was correctly applied for a value of 200^70.
Apr 21 2019
After deleting the plane and trying to set camera view - nothing happens.
However, when I shift-C - it starts working again, so I guess shift-C is a part of this bug.

@Brecht Van Lommel (brecht) so what's the point of 'noisy image' for now? We either can render denoised image, or without denoiser. If I render something for 9 hours and denoiser will throw me out a glitch I can't get the before-denoising image and do anything with that. All the time is wasted...
Apr 10 2019
It seems to be connected to T63379.
@db (phocomelus) Yes, I think it's connected.
@Sebastian Parborg (zeddb) I'll try to create example, I hope I will have time for this in this week.

Yes, it works with disabled experimenal features.
Yes, I'm using denoising - after disabling blender stopped crashing. Turning on again - crashing.

@Sebastian Parborg (zeddb) Right, one more step - close the preferences menu.
As you can see - progress bar is still there.

Just noticed that I've uploaded wrong .blend.
Corrected with one that does the thing.

After restarting blender it started to work. I feel so stupid now.
On 2.79.5 11.07 17:38 build I have this problem too. I want to use negative value for clumping to have hair meet at their ends, but can't use Curve because it's clamped at 0-1 values.

Jan 17 2018
I'm also experiencing problems with children's size (quite extreme, for example hair length is 1cm and children are 50cm), and random rotation - but I guess that would be a separate bug report.
Jan 12 2018
It was ~11MB, so not this big.
I've sent second mail, with link , without the rest of the mail.
Jan 5 2018
I've sent you the .blend.
Jan 3 2018
Yes, simple children.
No hair dynamics, about the second one I'm not sure what are you talking about.
