moving to addons report. Please let us know if this issue is solved.
As this task no longer relates to addons I'm removing addons project from this task and adding appropriate project tags.
@Naser Merati (Nevil) hi, I' would start a BA forum task with your latest addon version. At least that way users will have something to use in 2.8 and you can get valuable feedback on the addon/feature requests/usability and use that knowledge to advantage.
I'll start with a request to add a panel to the addon.
Thanks, good luck in your future endeavors.
hi, all done, @Shrinivas (Shrinivas) @takeshi funahashi (waitinfuture) thanks for your help. Please use the file in release for any further updates and create a new task for bugs or if new features/functions are added.
@William Reynish (billrey) hi, maybe we are misunderstanding here? I was thinking this would not be done for 2.8 and we would use an addon to overwrite the keymaps and add a panel. It all would have been optional as an addon until such time you built it in. If your adding this as built in defaults, it's a great move.
Multi Objects Rename could still be an addon and only add a panel? I'm mainly looking at the 3d view where it could also be extended to include more advanced renaming techniques relevant to the 3d viewport. I was brainstorming on this recently with proxe and we came up with ideas like renaming objects within collections to match collection names and other useful scenarios.
hi, raising priority here, I think this is useful enough for inclusion in 2.8. A panel in the sidebar > Item tab would be good to have and easy to construct. There's not much time left so a couple of questions..
Are you prepared to maintain this addon in Blender during 2.8 series? Are you familiar with the git system? Are you prepared to handle bug reports?
You have been very good with handling suggestions and working together with devs, so you would be most welcome.
Thanks, let's try to make this happen.
I am unsure of line 192 not using context and line 268 using context. Is there a reason for this?
The use of "mosesfreestyle" in the bl_location, surely this is an oversight?
Other than that this seems a very simple fix and most welcome.

hi, I see your using 2.79, it seems from your images that somehow the file is a .py with diff contents, the file is wrong.
This is the correct file for 2.79b

Does this mean that submissions like T40437 will be accepted now?
hi @Spivak Vladimir (cwolf3d)
As you've done so much work on addons in preparation for 2.8, I'm leaving the decisions up to you. If your prepared to maintain and take bug reports for the curve addons then I don't see an issue. We leave curve_simplify as standalone, then the rest is up to you. Of course I'll check, test, report back, I kept curve tools alive for some time but cannot continue with it. The curve cad tools seem nice and useful too. If you feel they are up to standard, you can look at adding them to release. The issue with Auto loft if not solvable can be left out of the ui for now. If you think it's better to merge curve tools and curve cad or keep them separate, maybe It's better to keep them under the 1 init but separate within. I really don't want to add much more to release at this stage so 1 well constructed addon would be better than 2. Let me know what you would like to do here. Thanks.
On a side note, your dimensions script, I remember the original "caliper" addon by macouno, it was very similar but used a bone to control the slider and used drivers to change the measurements. maybe something for 2.81 or add curve?
hi, you have supplied little or no information here. I've just tested the addon in a Nightly build from https://builder.blender.org/download/ and cannot reproduce your issue. Please provide the exact steps needed to reproduce this bug.

ok, that's fine, just let us know here if you make any changes.
I'll close this task now. Thanks for your time and efforts with F2.
@ADI SAMSONOFF (adi.samsonoff) hi any activity here? I would like to move this forward. Are you interested in maintain this addon, taking bug reports?
hi again, this took a while. I would like to see this addon in contrib addons to start with. It needs some formatting, reg at bottom, usual things.
Does the addon use the built in svg importer then add the extra functions on top or is it an importer in it's own right?

keeping open for now in case there's any follow up.
Added rBA812d1c1ec3f3 to version 1-8-4
Added e47cb9ed5b5c to version 1-8-4
These two updates were recently added to F2 during regular clean up.
Committed to release.
@Paul Kotelevets (1D_Inc) please let your guy know I've updated.
hi @Paul Kotelevets (1D_Inc), great story, Thanks, it gives me a greater understanding of your F2. I have similar stories from the old days and the new. Bart is a great guy, he helped me with addons in the very beginning, donating much time to Blender.
In the case of SmartF I was also looking for a maintainer as I was unaware of your F2 updates and continued maintenance. I'm always on the lookout for active developers, especially during big changes like 2.8.
Addons like bsurfaces, f2, looptools, mesh edit tools content, all date back some years, it's a testament to their usefulness that they always get attention at the right times.

hi, maybe try https://blender.chat/home you might need a https://www.blender.org/id/ or there's irc freenode #blenderpython no big need though we can discuss things as they arise in their tasks. I'll test the text some more, it's not a big issue.
Thu, Jun 20
Yes, you can include the link to your github docs. Thanks for updating. I had a little play with the addon today and it's quite nice. I was easily able to do the square to circle from your video. I also tried Text converted to curves. There were some artifacts, I guess they are solved by the vertex positioning. (I didn't watch the text video yet) Thanks again. if you can drop into https://blender.chat/channel/python at some stage to say hi It would be great. I'll close this task shortly and we can look at your other scripts/tasks.
@Philipp Oeser (lichtwerk) hi, this was the bug I mentioned in ANT Landscape.

hi, I made some changes, added property group, panel and reg to bottom of the script, trimmed trailing whitespace, 2 lines between classes. Feel free to check it out and commit if your happy.
hi, we might need to change the file name, Would curve_assign_shapekey.py be ok?
I think it's ok to commit.
Commit messages should be: addon name: reason for commit: task number

hi, there's a bug in the loft/auto loft, batfinger rewrote that for us a while back, maybe he has some idea there.
There seemed to be a slowdown in ui response with the addon enabled? There's lot's going on, buggy with a build from 2 days ago.
I had some better results with the curve tools in contrib but auto loft was not working in the second part. Part 1 creates the loft, part 2 hooks? the second curve to the loft so you can grab the second curve and move the loft with it. This could always be disabled until sorted.
Possibly it's better to keep Curve tools and Lichtso's curve cad separate? There's room for both?
With Simplify curves, maybe the same applies? The merge by distance function works well and it's small and easily duplicated to slot into panels across a couple of addons.
I'm just thinking that it's easier to maintain smaller blocks of functions than trying to do this all at once. What do you think? I know you've invested considerable time already,
On a side note: this
Fell into my lap today, it's got a couple of issues with polling , it's a good tool, similar but different to bevel/taper.
Thanks, let me know what you think.

@Nobuyuki Hirakata (Gappy1) thanks, it sounds like your doing a wonderful job, of course some more time to finalize will be fine. :)
@Paul Kotelevets (1D_Inc) points taken. I'm just trying to solve this task and try to keep the addons repo up to date. I'm not an expert modeller, so my tests are basic.
Now that I know of the new F2 version I'll have to address that. I will create another task for F2 addon.
@CansecoGPC (CansecoGPC) @Duyun Ivan (DIV) sorry, this is on hold again. it's up to you guys to decide how you want to proceed. Can you address some of the issues raised by 1D_Inc?
I did think with the panel it offered on the fly options, which is good for users who might just be learning what the options do, or occasionally use the tool.
Are the issues that led to the writing of Smartf addressed in the new version of f2?
Which functions in Smartf differ from f2? If it's only a matter of adding a couple of new functions and an ui to f2 now?
Let me know what you think and would like to see happen.
hi, please fill out forms properly. box cutter reports are to go to the author.

The issue is/was: It's difficult to justify 2 addons that do essentially the same function being in Blender. Both addons have a user base, both can useful in different situations and provide elements each other does not. They also use the same hotkey so there's the potential for key map issues.
As we need to solve this I think the only way is this.
1/ Update F2 to the version here: https://github.com/Cfyzzz/Other-scripts/blob/master/f2%2028%201-8-4.py
2/ Add SmartF as provided by @CansecoGPC (CansecoGPC) with a warning not to enable F2 addon
Thanks for your explanations, my concern here is that when/if bug reports come in they will need to be fixed and addressed. I think we can handle this for now.
We can put this back into 2.8 release as a "working update" No doubt we will get some user feedback. I'll also look for a dev to maintain the addon.
Probably I'll do this sooner rather than later.
Sat, Jun 15
One thing possibly missing here is to change Object and Object data names so they match
hi, can any one test this? @takeshi funahashi (waitinfuture) what was the issue with fast mode? Does the addon do enough without it? Going from a non maintained, non working addon to a currently working addon with a function removed is ok. Please let me know your thoughts.
hi, seems this is sidetracked? Is there any issue with adding this as an addon? If it's not an available feature in Blender, we could add it "until such time" that it's done in c.
The addon could appear in the Item Panel and overwrite the F2 hotkey. There's complex renamers being built atm, quite a few. It seems to me that this is a much needed function as it's kept coming up for years.
As it stands this addon fulfills the basic needs for selection based renaming.
Hi, thanks for replies, I will have a look again soon, this could work well in the Add Curve addon but seems better as a stand alone. I wonder how far it could be taken. Could some of the workflow be automated?
Are there any functions you can think of? I found it's easy with the addon to run up to millions of points. Possibly this might help: https://developer.blender.org/T53367 as it got the point counts down using afterwards.. Apply to selected object would be nice but could be problematic. All in all these are just suggestions.
I did notice that the ui could be fixed a little by grouping some functions on a single line rather than individual so the operator menu is more compacted.
Thanks again, I think we can look more at this. @Spivak Vladimir (cwolf3d) any suggestions?
Any result here?

hi @Paul Kotelevets (1D_Inc),
Thank you for your detailed response, we appreciate your time and input on this. I consider you the expert on the f2 addon functionality.
hi, thanks very much, Can you please check with nightly builds to make sure code is working correctly, I don't see any issue, but it's worth regular checking.
Have you looked at https://wiki.blender.org/wiki/Tools/Git and https://wiki.blender.org/wiki/Developer_Intro/Overview ? Are you prepared to maintain the addon within Blender through the 2.8 series? Let me know so we can look at your access to the addons repository.
There could be a couple more things to do here. I've had discussion with @Paul Kotelevets (1D_Inc) and he's still advocating the f2 addon. Given it's included in smartf we maybe could address the issue further.
Raising status, I've been following the work in progress updates and they are nearly ready.

We can merge this easily with Simplify Curves for 2.8 release.
@Michael Soluyanov (crantisz) I changed name to merge by distance and it works really well. I also did some better tests and it's really a great tool. Thank You.
@Spivak Vladimir (cwolf3d) I've made a few adjustments here to the bl info It's ok? Probably needs some clean up too.
Simplify curves seems to be bugging out? error in main with to many positional arguments? Can this be confirmed?
Next issue would be location in the menus. Although simplify curves has a long standing appearance in the add curve menu, It really does not not belong there. I would think both could be in the context menu as 2 entries prepended,
They could also be appended into the edit mode Curve menu.
At a later stage or if time permits, simplify curves also needs an operator menu, it would be nice to add some options such as edit/object mode, remove or keep original object.
Let me know what you think.
