OTOH, why would the default search function search for tools? - Wouldn't it be useful to add the ability to search for content, based on the editor type based on names, or file paths, or asset tags? (objects, images, layers, sequence strips .. etc)

While workspaces for modes will be supported and useful at times, you may just want to switch modes without switching to a new viewport, navigating back to the same place... possibly having to adjust layer visibility setting the shading etc.

the number row keys for mode switching were growing on me and i thought they were a good idea but i think i can work with the tab for edit mode and pie menu on mouse drag thing. it's not bad.
it still makes various modes easier to access and all but i'm thinking the need for an individual button for each mode switching would be greatly lessened if we could actually set up workspaces with specific modes selected for them.
if i want to set up a workspace for sculpting why should i still have to swap to sculpt mode rather than just change workspaces?
i'm sure most people will be glad to have tab back to something more like it's current use in 2.79- even if i'm not sure that i'm one of them.

"Space bar to switch active tools conflicts with the Operator Search feature
It’s inconsistent if it’s double tap space some places, and single tap space in others
It makes Operator search slower to access if you have to press space twice."

i still disagree with space being used for active tool swapping. to me it still very much seems like a needless change to move search off of space.
i've heard that the reasoning is that space can be used as a modifier i still fail to see the great reasoning for taking search off of space.

we've already got the tool shelf over there on the left.

This can't be used to access tools via key-bindings.

Updated the text "Switch Tools: Space", while none of this depends on the key being space, space does feel nicer to use as a modifier compared with most other available keys.

i don't mind the number row being used for mode swapping as much as i thought i would given muscle memory.
as for differing opinion on another hotkey change...

i still very much want this as well.
it seems like some of the changes to the 3d cursor in 2.8 might be used to make the base point more "blender" ish if it needs that....
maybe since they're messing with the 3d cursor in 2.8 they'll be willing to mess with snap targets too in order to improve them in 2.8 as well.
enabling something done quick and easy but precise like this enables you to do would be a good use case for improvements to the current system.
