My understanding from reading the standard is that yes, DCI-P3 would then require a colorspace definition (it doesn't have this). Ideally, I suppose it should have one, but I wanted to make as few changes as possible.

Did you add lights? Is there any ambient world lighting (that'll be under the Earth icon in the properties panel)? Which render engine; Cycles or Blender Internal? Graphics Card or CPU render, if in Cycles?

As mentioned, it did end up working; it could be an update or me just not touching anything. The .blend itself could also be the culprit; I did mess around quite a bit with a lot of pieces during that project. In any case, I haven't personally had problems with the fluid simulator since.

Netrender has not been updated in quite awhile. While what is there is commendable, personally I've gotten tired of waiting for some very needed fixes, and started writing my own solution. The Blender Foundation itself is doing the same (see flamenco.io).

MichealN: Your CPU doesn't look all too powerful, maybe the calculations are a little too much... Does it by any chance fail earlier if you up the resolution
The fluid simulator simply stops. Blender keeps on running just fine.
