I would rather not use Esc, which is both odd and hard to reach. Will keep as-is because none of the other alternative proposals will work well.

Agreed that Esc is not really all that ergonomic. I'd definitely prefer it to not be Esc.

Tab is more useful for other things like operator search.

Maybe this is true in other modes but the number of times I need to search for an operator versus going in and out of Object/Edit mode isn't even a comparison. Perhaps other people model by using the search feature but I think I've used it twice since 2.80 came out, while going in and out of Edit mode is something I do hundreds of times a day. Literally. Having fast access to the search feature versus easily going in and out of Edit mode is a no-brainer to me.

Using 1 for object mode is used by some other apps, and it’s also the default mode in Blender. Plus, it mirrors the same order you see in the Mode drop down menu. So I’ll keep it this way.

I thought the purpose was not to be the way Blender is by default but instead to mimic what other apps do? I was part of the discussion earlier in this thread with regards to 1/2/3/4 for Edit mode and I think the argument was made that only one other app uses 1 as an Object mode and it was Houdini or something (which is hardly known for having a robust modeling toolset).

  1. Loop select does not work with Double Click nor Ctrl + LMB (this also calls the menu)

Double-click should work

Either I'm doing something wrong or it does not work in the current build. Tried several times now to double click with LMB and nothing happens. Using the Menu Select Loops » Edge Loops works.

Any chance you have a "Restore" button on that section of the keymapping that's over riding it?

It's live! Last night's build has it included. Everyone go test it!!

The initial implementation of this keymap is now included with Blender 2.8, and will appear in the official builds for testing.

It would be nice if a shift (or Ctrl) drag duplicates in all transform modes and if spacebar toggled between box select and drag behavior for all of the tools. This would replicate 3ds Max’s Lock Selection behavior which I’ve always been a fan of.

If I'm understanding you correctly then what you're describing is something I've wanted for Blender, too. In Max I can be in Edge mode, activate the move tool, hold Shift and just drag out a new edge (basically extruding it to a new polygon). It's wonderful. :)

You would just use the 1 and 2 keys, respectively to go to whichever of those modes you wish - or any of the other modes using the number keys.
Tab for Edit Mode is an old Blender convention - not something that makes sense in this context. In fact, it doesn’t even really make sense in the main Blender keymap either, because it always prioritizes Edit Mode.

Oh, duh. I completely spaced on "1" being for Object mode - in my head I was still thinking that that would be Object mode as it exists in Max, which is essentially "select linked" in Blender. Oops!

Tab had been suggested as getting in and out of Edit mode. What's the currently decided way to do that? I know 1,2,3,4 were talked about to get into those modes but how do you quickly get out of Edit mode?

Object/Face/Edge/Vertex

It's the most logical thing. But aside of that... it exist in no other software (sadly) and (complete reverse) will confuse everyone!

I'll set Ctrl/Cmd-D to Duplicate. To Deselect you can click in empty space, or you can hit Ctrl-Shift-D

Works for me!

As a Houdini user (with no intentions on leaving this software) that wouldn't be desirable for me. We got Object on "1" :) But if it's in 3Dmax, and a lot of people migrate from it to Blender, maybe it would be better...

Well, I can see the argument both ways. I'm not familiar with Houdini but I can see your argument for that keymapping. Honestly so long as it's easy to rebind those inputs then it should be fine. I am not familiar enough with programs other than Max to say what the industry standard should be in this case.

If Ctrl/Cmd-D is used for Duplicate, which key should be used for Deselect All then?

Personally I'm torn on Ctrl+D or Shift+D for Duplicate. My instinct is to use Ctrl+D but I feel like since it's adding something to the scene that Shift as the operator would keep more in line with other uses of Shift as an "add" operator. Ctrl+D could then be used for Deselect (though I'd imagine most people would just click in an empty area instead)

I set Tab to the Quick Favourites menu.

I'm torn on this one as well. I do love access to the QF menu being something easily reached with the left hand but so many other 3D apps use 1/2/3 as vertex/edge/face that I would hate to deviate from that. I feel like that would get confusing for many people to be "one number off" of what they're used to when coming from other apps.

1-9 keys are used for the modes/elements (Object, Vertex, Edge, Face, Sculpt etc)

My personal preference would be Vertex, Edge, Face, Object.
