If you want to cut/remove geometry use trim.

What's wrong with the python tooltips? IIRC it shows the filepath.

That's a bad default actually. People coming from other softwares might even think this is a glitch at first, lol. But that's up to you guys.

No, it should stay enabled by default. This feature is the only reason sculpting with multires is still kind of doable. Power users can turn this off if they want.
And yes, make it show in flat shading like Wax said.

Yes, after T74692: Sculpt Mode significantly laggy after the addition of Face Sets? things never became as smooth as before.
Maybe there's no solution to this.

Hi guys. I'm afraid this issue is not totally solved. There's still a significant lag difference, if you compare it to for example 2.82.
Maybe this could be marked as known issue/limitation?

I love this feature in ZBrush, it helps a lot. And yes, this is perfect for sculpt mode. Not sure about the other modes.
@Dalai Felinto (dfelinto) Well, I'm not encouraging anything, also I don't see anything wrong about asking for information on tasks/patches that seems to be forgotten, but if you think this is bad, then so be it!

Ah, so that's the reason blender is crashing a lot lately.

So after the face set is create and everything is slow, will we be able to make it fast again? Disabling it in the overlays will do that?

I'm sorry William Reynish, but "About" dialogs are usually found in the Help menu of most applications. This is standard. Why it should be different in Blender?
If you're putting this under the "App" menu or elsewhere, I'd rather not have it at all, sincerely. It makes no sense.
