I've now tried drivers since 385.41 (released August 2017) - still, the same problem persists. My process is to download a driver from https://www.geforce.com/drivers and install it. To ensure it has installed, I then choose update driver on Device Manager > Display Adapters > NVIDIA GeForce 940MX (then browse my computer... and let me pick a driver... before selecting the installed driver).
