This sounds great. Regarding what Hans said about leaving only the recover last option, I personally think it's worth keeping both options. I don't know how common this is for other users but on occasions I'll have two instances of the same blend opened (say, because I partially regret a change I made but if I undo I loose some work I do want to keep, so I reopen the last saved version in a different instance and copy what I need from there). If blender crashes on those occasions, sometimes the last autosave version is not the one I want. I know it sounds convoluted but it's happened more than once and I thought I'd mention it.

This is very welcome. I've been using --factory-startup for this but that's far from ideal because it bypasses all settings and not just add-ons.

Great! I think it would also make sense to have an operator that saves current positions of vertices to a vector attribute and another that does the reverse, that would allow us to replace shape keys with attributes usable via geometry nodes which would be very nice.

Hi! Was this reverted with the change to explicit realize instances node? I noticed in 3.0 and 3.1, when applying a geometry nodes modifier, instances turn into empty meshes, which I wouldn't expect, but maybe my expectation is wrong?
(I was going to report it as a bug but found this commit which sounds like it does what I'd expect it to do)

I might be wrong but I think that is expected behavior. Collection info node outputs an instance. If you add a realize instances after collection info it works. The same way, if you turned on "as instance" in the object info nodes it would have the same behavior.

Hi! From reading the description I thought that when using separate children in a collection info node subcollections were going to be treated
independently as it happens with objects in the collection, but it seems that is not the case. Should I report it as a bug or maybe I misunderstood the description?

For what it's worth, there's a similar function in some other popular animation softwares and I've used it a couple of times in my work for glitchy text animations. I don't think I have anything I can share of that but I might make a representative example layer if I get the time.

This is awesome! Is there any chance to eventually have this node work on shader trees also? I've needed something like this on several occasions (generally, to have an easy way to switch between alternative image textures in a shader or have variations controlled by custom object properties) and had to create cumbersome nodetrees to do it.

It would be awesome to support more formats for drag and drop. I just wanted to point out that blender already supports dropping *some* non-blend files (i.e. images in the viewport as empty images, and images and videos as camera background)

This is great! The last mockup where it shows the individual sockets upon mouse over or expanding look especially interesting to me thinking about the eventual possibility of a color ramp node where each color stop is connected to a color input. (A bit out of topic here, but related and shows exciting coming possibilities!)

Hi! Ctrl+L in pose mode used to be "browse poses". It now calls "select linked" but in the keymap it is still assigned to both actions aparently. Will browse poses have a different shortcut?

Not a bug, it was moved to a new transform options menu in the tool settings. If you enable the tool settings bar it will show up as an "options" popover, or you can find it in the tool sub-panel in the N panel or in the tool settings section in the properties editor

I think it was suggested by animators at the studio, because in big scenes some times you don't know with certainty the current selection state so the old behaviour can be unreliable, which is a pain in such big scenes where undoing is quite slow. Anyway, I know it can be confusing/frustrating at first, but I would recommend that you give it a chance, a few hours with patience, the Alt+A for deselecting became second nature for me and others quite quickly.

This is not a bug. You can choose the old behaviour from the keymap preferences menu. The new behaviour works like this: you select all with A, and you unselect by either hitting alt+A or a fast double A tap

This could cause more problems than it solves.

Often people select the wrong type of function through lack of knowledge, then realise it when the results aren't as expected. Not much of a problem at the moment because you can change it easily from the existing node's dropdown. If you have to replace the entire node then it's a lot of steps to delete the node, add another node, and then hook things back up properly, if you get the math wrong a number of times this could become frustrating. Also the menus system would become bloated (although sub menus would help as Eitan suggested above).

I guess a solution that would fit all would be to have a sub menu off of the math listing, and then use whatever's selected to set the operation type in the math node's dropdown. That way it can be easily changed if necessary , and allow users to add with one click.

In 2.8 in the node editor, using right click select, we seem to have lost the shortcut for cutting links (ctrl+click and drag). Is there any alternatives that i'm missing, short of using the links cut active tool or dragging out of the destination socket (both highly unpractical for me)?
