I think it was suggested by animators at the studio, because in big scenes some times you don't know with certainty the current selection state so the old behaviour can be unreliable, which is a pain in such big scenes where undoing is quite slow. Anyway, I know it can be confusing/frustrating at first, but I would recommend that you give it a chance, a few hours with patience, the Alt+A for deselecting became second nature for me and others quite quickly.

This is not a bug. You can choose the old behaviour from the keymap preferences menu. The new behaviour works like this: you select all with A, and you unselect by either hitting alt+A or a fast double A tap

In 2.8 in the node editor, using right click select, we seem to have lost the shortcut for cutting links (ctrl+click and drag). Is there any alternatives that i'm missing, short of using the links cut active tool or dragging out of the destination socket (both highly unpractical for me)?

Regarding the "standardness" of this, I would like to point out that at least Davinci resolve has a menu similar to this, it reads "DaVinci Resolve" and has options such as Preferences, keyboard customization, etc.

Project settings / format sound weird for me also, because blender projects are a very broad thing (i. e. one could expect to find units settings under such a a panel). How about something like Output Specifications or Render Specifications?

Maybe this shouldn't be under "viewport display" subpanel, but under a depth order one, since "viewport display" seemps to imply this will only affect how it is shown in the viewport, not how it will be rendered.

+1 for return key (and i've never used mac...). In windows, After effects uses it that way and it works well, and it's a prominent key we're not currently using.

What's the use case for moving object to "Scene collection" root? As far as I can see that's not something one should be doing often, so maybe that option souldn't even in the M menu? I know that's a different discussión from the problem at hand here, but it would also solve it.

I'm just not sure how it got there in the first place.
Probably by hitting Ctrl+Numpad 0 with the object selected, or with the menu comand "Set active object as camera"

Yeah, it definitely seems like a bug, it falls into a strange state. If you enable x-ray, you can select edges, but without it you can't, bizarre.

How about a toggle to show/hide the viewport visibility column in the outliner? Similar to the after effects toggles for showing/hidding blend modes columns and others. Hidden by default.

Hope I'm not being annoying but in case it helps, I also noticed Alt + Wheel is no longer assigned to frame offset.
Were the view orbit shortcuts (shift+alt+mmb up/down and ctrl+alt+mmb up/down) changed or eliminated? They're not working here and I can't find them in input preferences.

I think items 1 and 3 from the Empty Image Tasks are done. The only one missing is "Single sided display", which is imho the only feature missing to make image empties work great as background images.
@Campbell Barton (campbellbarton) I think Ctrl-Shift-Tab (Snap Element Menu) is actually back. And "toggle fullscreen area). Use Ctrl-Alt-Space" I think is not yet implemented

Actually, Alt+D is used in edit mode, it's the "extend vertices" operator. Also Q in 2.8 calls the quick favorites.

Small suggestion in regards to the pivot point pie menu. I think the two most used pivot point settings are "median point" (the default one) and "3d cursor" so it would make things faster if they were on opposing sides, and "active element" is, I think, much more often used than "bounding box center", so it would be nice if it was placed on one of the main directions, opposing "individual origins".

This is great! Any chance to have the drag-triggers-pie behaviour Campbell implemented for a while during the code quest back? I think the Ideal would be able to assign one of the options of each pie menu to it's trigger key, and only have the pie menu show when dragging, so for example if a user tends to use mainly, say, "smooth" falloff in proportional editing, he/she might set the "o" key to togle between proportional on with smooth falloff and proportional off, and use o+drag when he/she needs to set other types of fallof.

In 2.8 there's a "Camera lock" subpanel of the "view" panel in the sidebar, but as I understand it, two of it's tree options don't involve the active camera at all but just the view, I find it a bit confusing: "Lock to object" and "Lock to 3d cursor" under "Camera Lock" seem to imply the camera is the one to be locked. Maybe "View lock" would be better, since the only option actually involving the camera ("Lock Camera to view") does mention it, though maybe some other more comprehensive name could be found.

Looking good! Im curious, if Comma will switch orientation, will there be a new shortcut involving the comma to set a custom transform orientation? Or will it remain ctrl+alt+space?

Hi! I'd like to point out that the § symbol is absent from many popular keyboard layouts so, if possible, I think it would be better if some other more universally accessible symbol was used. Maybe "+=" like some softwares use?
