It's not solved, this report was closed as a duplicate:

This is the known "Terminator issue" in Cycles (also some other engines have trouble here).
It's a known issue and will probably be improved one day, but not considered a bug at the moment. In the meantime, the only way to avoid this, is to use high-res geometry.

By the way: Symmtrical unwrapping was important and already possible in Softimage XSI in 2010. I say this, because I'm a XSI veteran and love this piece of software.

@Jacques Lucke (JacquesLucke) The point is, users expect symmetrical unwrapping of meshes that were modeled symmetrical... Especially faces or bodies. Of course if the seams are set symmetrical. But Hennig created all right, Blender didn't unwrapped the area in the way we expect it.

I can confirm the issue, on the default cube:

  • Enter edit mode
  • Point Normals to Target
  • Press tab
  • Crash

Normally modal operators block events so that you can't change mode while using the tool, that should happen here as well.

"CTRL+parent object" -> Select all child objects including parent.

That is not the case, only shift does that.

How it could be: Click "SHIFT+parent" -> Selects all child objects including parent.
Anew click "SHIFT+parent" -> Deselects all child objects including parent.

That is how it is implemented. If it does not work can you please open a new bug report and explain how to reproduce it step by step?

... Does orange backdrop mean "this item is in Edit Mode"? If so, why is it so important to show such info in Outliner? Is it possible to enter the Edit Mode from Outliner? It's not, as far as I know.
Anyway, if the "Edit Mode" state of an ObData in Outliner is a must, I'd look for the way to show it without using a colour change of the backdrop. At least would avoid using a colour that's different from the icon's hue. My proposal od using ObData colour may still be valid, but shoud be limited to the "Edit Mode" state. Have to sleep on it.

To your eye do you imagine that those outlines should be removed or just made less stark? To my own I would leave the one around the "being edited" icon as it is (or even stronger), but make the other "active" ones a bit dimmer.

@Christoph Werner (Taros) : What about the blue bar? Is it the current "mouse over" in this state?

The blue bar is unchanged from the current behavior, so indicating that the row is selected in the Outliner. The hover is also untouched, so is becomes a bit lightened on mouse over. I purposely did not include that in the capture because it can look confusing since you don't also see the mouse cursor there to explain it.

With this change:

  • The black vertical bars between the restriction icons is removed.
  • The highlighted icons have a border. Trying to make them a bit more noticeable but not too noticeable. LOL

The second of the two collections is active. The second collection contains the active camera. A Text object is selected in the viewport and is currently being edited.

Confirmed.
At the moment my demo scene with some modifiers is at 5 fps in version 2.8.
In v2.79 its faster and runs at about 8 fps.

supporting cycles is on the list. However since Blender 2.8 dropped blender render and comes with a much bigger challenge (more renderers beside Cycles), i decided to not rush and look into this for when the time comes for Blender-2.8 support. I already fear that moment :/

OK... now I understand my problem.
I am always using Cycles nodes for all my material settings. To be honest I've never used the Blender Renderer in the history...
So I've checked the values for my material by switching to Blender Render... and voila! There are the settings set.

I've narrowed the diffuse color problem. When exporting the diffuse color from Blender the following happen and is definitely a bug.

Softimage XSI supported seperating all channels of bitmaps already 10 years ago.
