Yes, I have noticed this too. It should be addressed.
By the way, if you disable the Copy Transforms constraint on "DEF-spine.005" that seems to fix the issue.
It could be breaking something else, however ... so use this fix with caution.

You're right. Currently, it says
"Rotation Axis (Automatic, X, Z)
Defines the bend axis for the IK chain. FK chains will have a totally free degree of rotation on all axes."
More info about Automatic mode wouldn't hurt.

Values greater than this are not recommended.

By default arms and legs are set to Rotation Axis: Automatic. This mode disregards bone roll in the meta rig and adjusts the roll of the final rig based on the relative position of the elbow. This is meant to assist less experienced users who may not know what "bone roll" is. You can set the Rotation Axis setting to X or Z Manual. Then Rigify will take your custom rolls into account.

No need to keep a separate report open so I will merge your report in T93541: Blender 3.0 cannot import FBX (containing more than 8 UV layers)

@Sybren A. Stüvel (sybren) any news on this? Any plans for the redesign to happen during 3.x?
This bug has the potential to wipe out hours of work (happened to me). It's hard to accept that it has been known for 5+ years, is considered "Normal" severity, and is assigned to no one.

Yes, please fix this. The meta rigs are often used by people who don't know much about rigging. You can't expect them to figure out the problem and then fiddle with bone rolls.

Download and open the attached blend file.


Some widgets should already be selected. Just Alt+click and drag the IK FK sliders.

These changes look great.
I have an idea that may fit here. When you have 3+ windows like in the image below, rearranging them can become cumbersome. Eg. to collapse the Graph editor on the top, I'd have to first collapse the NLA and Dope Sheet.
Or if I want to make more room in the NLA I have to push the other two windows out of the way first.
It would be nice if you could push other windows "out of the way" instead of "colliding" with them.

I have also found this confusing in the past.
I understand the logic that their true unconstrained value is displayed.
Yet the "constrained values" can be used in Drivers and such. It would be nice to have an easy way to know these values.

Actually it looks like "Weight Paint Sample group" can be turned off in input, but shift+rmb still wont work for Lasso Select.

Thank you for the workaround. Now I understand why this didn't happen before. I just named my bones properly.
But yeah, ultimately it shouldn't be something that the user has to worry about.
