There is a simple workaround for this, you can uncheck use alpha in the image properties. If you need alpha mask create another image with the same source and use alpha checked this time.

Sorry for reopening this, but hazukiaoi might be right.
.fbm folder is for embedded textures, and it looks like Blender sets some property that says there are embedded textures, but leaves the list empty. I know we don't have official .fbx specification, but exporting from other 3d tools doesn't do this so fixing this would make Blender .fbx export more constant with other tools.

Here is an linear space example:
1 save the image
2 you will need to reselect sRGB in order to change colour space
It looks like even though colour space changes to sRGB after saving image, the image is not sampled in sRGB colour space until blender is restarted or sRGB is reselected. That shouldn't be intended behaviour.

The lag also depends on size of the image in the editor, anything over 512 is hard to work with (I set 4k generated in the submitted .blend). If nobody complained about this before in bug reports, it's probably hardware/platform specific. I remember having same problem with previous versions of Blender on this computer.

I just tested with 2.73.8 version (I downloaded few days ago) and it still appears. Sorry about the error either change image source to generated or here is fixed file

Sorry to bother you again about this, but I would add a warning message here (something like "You need an active face") so somebody doesn't wonder what is he doing wrong like I did. Cheers

Although my mesh is invisible when not selected and when I select it it is rendered as wireframe even though Viewport shading is material.
Works without VBO, but when I enable it again after changing the UV map it crashes.

As brecht wrote in reply to this bug report https://developer.blender.org/T36563 normal socket is currently ignored by cycles normal pass and displacement isn't, but baking ignores both. Thanks for the link with workaround, should work for now.
