Could this be related to: https://developer.blender.org/T86578
From @Evan Wilson (EAW) description:
" Values <0 will make the output black. Values ⪅ -0.9 cause the shader to flicker between white and black using the slider, "
Could this result in the fireflies we see during the render?

I duplicated the texture and made the one that goes to the specular "non-color", that seemed to resolve the problem on 2.93.
This is a behavior difference between 2.92 and 2.93. Is that intended?
Here is a simple blend file which shows the issue.
You can open the file in 2.93 and see the issue.
If you open it in 2.92 it looks fine.
In 2.93, if you disconnect the specular input of the principled shader, then the problem disappears (as far as I can see).

This has already been fixed with the change in https://developer.blender.org/T85609
I already tested with that patch and it seems to work.

I did a git bisect and narrowed the issue to this commit:

Another thing I noticed is that if you have a shape-key with a driver on it, and you delete the shape-key the driver doesn't go away. But we start seeing errors like this on the console:
I think I pinpointed the strange behaviour I've been seeing:

I found out the issue. It's the subsurface scattering node in the teeth material. Doesn't look like it's an issue. Just wrong setting.

Just to clarify in my case what I see is that some icons are not displayed at all.

I tired the above steps with the latest blender and it appears like the issue has been resolved. Thanks for all the great work on Blender

I'm unable to reproduce with the latest build.

Here are more concrete steps I was able to use to reproduce the crash:
- Add driver to one of the facial expressions in the file
- Edit the driver by right clicking and then selecting "edit driver'
- Change the expression from var -> -var
- Copy the driver
- Paste it on a different facial expression
- Edit the driver by right clicking and then selecting "edit driver"
- change the expression from -var to var
- Go to the bone controlling the driver and move it
- Crash occurs

Makes sense. Thanks for the explanation.
put the reversed traversal in the unregister, instead of the register.
This is now a duplicate of: https://developer.blender.org/D4122
Addressed JacquesLucke's comments.
Added the update for the landscape presets as part of this diff
Made the changes. Will be submitting an update shortly.
And yes, I tested the add-on with its different settings and it appears to be working similar to 2.79

animation nodes addon also triggers this crash
Also tested the patch and it works.

Ok it's Measureit addon that's crashing blender. Thanks for the quick turn around.
Looks like the issue is in gpu_shader.c:
363 »···if (vertexcode)
364 »···»···shader->vertex = glCreateShader(GL_VERTEX_SHADER);

never mind. I'm able to generate core files now. I'll make sure to include it in future tickets
I'm unable to reproduce at this point.
When I got the crash I had gone into these steps:
- enter edit mode for the shoes in the blend file
- rotate, resize, move
- go into object mode,
- resize the object
- Undo by Cntrl+Z several times, then the crash occurred.

Jacques, thanks for looking at it. Attached is a screenshot from 2.79. Option is useful when working multiple overlayed bones.
