I have exactly the same error under linux, Kubuntu 19.04.

OK, I understand your calculation, even if I do not completely agree with it: I understand it is difficult to calculate and I'm not a developer ;-).
The Widht value is equal to the diameter of a circle whose center is the orthocenter of the triangle formed by the edges.
It will have to be explained in the documentation.
And if we increase the number of segments, it changes the whole topology of the corner. It's getting harder and harder to find a good bevel value.
Broken: version: 2.80 (sub 60), branch: blender2.7, commit date: 2019-05-08 22:27, hash: rBe2d04229c38b

A new exemple with Ctrl-B on the vertex of a plane: the widht type is only Offset, the others (Widht or Depth) have no effect. And it is well.
- profile 0.5 with 1 segment (or profile 0.25 and several segments), a chamfer,
- profile 0.5 with several segments, give offset equal radius.

It's a mistake, see T63335.
