@William Reynish (billreynish) This function is called Press/Pull in Autocad and Push/Pull in Sketchup. So such a naming would make it easier for users of other software.

Seems like this hasn't been fixed completely. It still doesn't work when the curve doesn't have any volume/geometry (bevel or profile). In 2.79 this was working as expected.
a simple curve with mirror modifier
a curve with bevel profile
working as expected in 2.79

So it seems that it's been fixed. I downloaded today's build and it works again. So I think this can be closed.
Or if you still want to examine it here's a crash I get when I run yesterday's build in software GL
and the terminal
./blender-softwaregl
connect failed: No such file or directory
Read new prefs: /home/fil/.config/blender/2.75/config/userpref.blend
Writing: /tmp/blender.crash.txt
Segmentation fault

Could you elaborate more on how to start blender with software GL? I tried to run the blender-sotwaregl but nothing happened. BTW. I'm using driver from ATI, not the default system one.

The behaviour I would like is in the following image. Which means curved inside and outside edges included. The current behaviour really doesn't behave like a multisegment bevel. I could get the same with 1 segment bevel and then add loopcuts. So I think it's definitely worth continuing this path.

I can't imagine a situation where I wouldn't want them to curve, but if you say so :) Maybe a checkbox then?
Howardt, I can still reproduce the bug mentioned in the first post in today's build. That means edge loops which are close to each other still don't follow curvature and go straight. Just try a multisegment bevel on an edge loop.

Yes, that's it. Sorry - I guess my screen is too bright, so I could see it well :)
I wonder, though, if the part where it gets narrower should be there at all (when blurring in X direction only). I would expect the correct result to look like this.

Actually this behaviour has bothered me too in the properties panel. What good is it to have an empty area and then having to scroll up to see something? Maybe there could be a condition if there's nothing to show then scroll all the way up, where there is something, else keep the scroll position.

I actually also encountered this bug. I have an AMD Radeon HD 6500M/5600/5700 Series . I suspect the defocus node is the cause, because it occurred when I used it. But it's not easily reproducible. I rendered an animation and most of the frames were fine, but several had this exact error.
