Boolean Union has issues when using Bevel (segment 3 and >) before Subsurf

If you open the scene adjust the segment value of 2 for bevel segment to 3 the threading boolean union will break.

Somewhat with Blender on Mac OS I managed to create 6 NAN objects and when on a visible layer always render the scene black when only using a lamp as light.
World and mesh lights illuminate the scene.

The same render artifact also happens when using CPU and GPU in Image render time on windows 10 with the official Blender build.

It is great to see that the widget system is being reworked, but I think it might miss some of the glorious aspects of this proposal here:
Defining a start point, defining a mid point, then scaling/rotating to a target point.
Everybody that works in object design uses that in nearly every other application.

Let me supply you with a demo file. I asumed that with a scene that renders slow on a GTX 970 with two at least in preview mode it would render somewhat faster.

Personally I prefer the Separate Operators option as these are really quite different tools that are not as interchangeable as they seem (in my opinion). For example, when linking there are currently settings displays that don't apply to appending, such as setting Relative or Absolute Path. This just muddies it.

  • Basically, if its not very obvious how to set the value - we should fix that.

@Marek Moravec (marek) - the strength is in blender units too.

Set the strength of a plane to 1.0 and the mid-level to 0.0, it moves 1.0 blender unit.

Maybe it would be wise to make a separate Offset modifier based on the current solidify but without the nonsense option like fill rim, index offset etc. The think is that the simple offset doesnot generate any geometry so it should be in the deform category and not in generate together with solidify.

I could try to re-add the offset only option... as it clearly is not the same as the displace modifier, but it probably will remain in a branch for some time then, until its accepted.
