Hum! one solution is that, append all the object to a new file.. In this way gizmo problem solves... In a mean time try to reproduce / find out the cause of the prob
However, try to install latest graphics drivers form official site, maybe it's solved your problem...

Only i can fine the bug which i mention. however i think, if it's necessary separate report will be made for this.

Although! This a some type of feature request.. but as it's very needed (without it user's very important data can be lost accidentally in a sec without any warning) so i vote it up as a Bug/Error...
Also It's not matter, you select the file accidentally, but you can accidentally write same name as other (pre file exists) and will be overwritten...

Try mouse button 4 & 5 working fine, also Left Click works (in Blender 2.8 stable) & 2.81 (seems fine working) only Right Click & Middle Click is not working as these are reserved for other actions..
But in any case the error you are showing is not shown..
Also you are using older version then Blender 2.80 (sub 75) stable.
Please give exact steps to reproduce the error also try in stable version. you screen-shots not looking clearly.
@eric (ebi) Your image is pinned so it's not changing when you switch to different objects.

Hum! In 2.81 very strange behavior, You can select whole face but can individual vertex...
What ever method you are using for selection (box select, circle select or lasso select) if you select all vertex of the face then it's will be shown as selection otherwise not.
like whole face can be selected (in vertex selection mode):
In-short when all vertices of face is selected selection shows..
Note: blender 2.80 works fine
In Blender 2.8 Stable working fine... in 2.81 some problems there...
in 2.81 Vertices can be selected but we have to selects from a large range to select even on vertex

Umm! Should you try Blender 2.80 stable as asked
Yeah! tooltips are confusing why, however that's by comma means Shift + Space then numbers
Then you should try latest graphics drivers (form official site)...
I am unsure prob is caused by gpu drivers but could be... even one function could be used form latest drivers to fix some problem during migration of daily build/RC3 to stable one....
Also try with load factory setting method

Try Load Factory setting (File -> Defaults -> Load Factory Setting) If you need to test in new project (after Load Factory) you must also save Startup file under same menu.
Also checks in Blender 2.8 stable version.

I 'am unable to reproduce the bug in my PC. I tried every possible condition, also try to follow the exact steps and file but nothing happens like this...
I tried in Blender 2.8 stable and also on today daily build (using windows 10)..

I think, it's not a bug/error, yet a feature request or something else...

Yeah! try in Blender 2.8 build-bot today (rB5e77fb24822b), still same prob there.

Moreover, some of the prob can be easily fixed at community level (one of the community sites) e.g. https://blender.chat/channel/support. Please try and let we know.
In general no such a bugs, however this is one of the bug often users faced...

This is very important feature... on the other hand a bug/error. because after moving the cursor redo panel shows... (why).. not works in many ways.
- move the cursor, form redo panel changing the value effects too many, also only in postie direction (where values are less or not)
- rotate the cursor, redo panel not effects the 3d-cursor rather then last selected object
- scales the 3d cursor, redo panel still shows...

Somethings, like this, How Daz 3d Hexagon Works. It's open the new panel..
Or use just text-editor for that, as for Text Object Nothing Special like of other 3d objects, As I know. In Edit Mode we can only edit the text nothing more. @dark999 (dark999) What you think about?

I already applied the alt solution, like duplicating the object hiding one and showing other..
Better to handling geometry automatically or disable geometry adding/removing...
